I thought Greeneville was a Christian town. What happened to redemtion and forgiveness. Oh I guess if you can hide behind false indentities and no one can see who you really are then all that Christian belief is out the window.

I do not believe this thread. I looked it all up and could not find anything on it. Just another jealous unhappy person trying to hurt others. Try doing something good to make your life have a purpose.

Well, I don't agree with all the bashing, but the basic facts that have been stated are true. I was here when it happened. Money and time erase a lot of memories.

Well, I'll tell you "sad", if you will go to this website, which is all I could find in a 10 minute search, you will be enlightened. The "banker" mentioned was Jerry Fortner, who was employed as a loan officer by First Tennessee Bank at the time. This concerns an appeal by then Judy Weems(now Judy Robinson) and her husband at the time Larry Weems and others of Greeneville's finest citizens.

So how was Jerry involved? He was just a loan officer. Where does it say he went to jail? Interesting story though.

It says in about the second or third paragraph of the link provided that the banker agreed to participate in the plan and made fraudulent loans to several of the parties to come up with the money to finance the operation. I believe that Fortner was one of the 10 who plead guilty. The reason the other names weren't mentioned is that this was the appeal of Judy Weems(Robinson) and Donald Martin. I will try to find information on the actual case against the others. Read the story closely and you will understand. This is no secret around here for the people old enough to remember. Also, if you will notice, one defendant was neither identified or charged. Some think that person has allegedly helped Fortner get to where he is today. I have no direct knowledge of that.

If you want some local remembrances of this drug deal, type in "The Pot Plane" on the search function on Greeneville Topix. It is a long thread(about 300 posts), but it has a lot of information on this drug deal. Now this drug deal with Fortner and Weems was NOT the pot plane( before somebody says that the pot plane was a different bust), but that thread has a lot of discussion on the people involved in the Weems deal. I think it starts about the second or third page on the Weems -Fortner bust.

Jerry is a great person a wonderful son to his dad and a pillar of this community, I know . I think jealousy is an ugly thing and it talks ignorantly.
Educate yourself.
I know all the back story and it all happened 30 years ago or longer. Leave it alone . We need more companies to come to Greeneville. Leave Jerry alone and let him help our community.

I remember all this going down as a teen, because my parents were talking about it. Everyone was talking about it back then.

A lot of illegal stuff still goes on in Greeneville.

Didn't all of this stuff happen 30 years ago? He went to jail and payed his debt to society. He hasn't been in trouble since then. What kind of people will bring up a person's past from 30 years ago?

Okay you people are all fools. This is all true. We're just restating true facts that people wanted to know.I just find it funny how the state can give money to Jerry Fortner for bullcrap that we really don't need while the school systems need it and the need for other stuff than jobs. There are plenty of jobs for people, most of them just don't want to work.I am sorry that Bill Haslam was elected governer if he gives money to crooks like persay Jerry Fortner. This is all he is a crook who was made rich by being a crook and having pot planes. This isn't slander because its true. And name one thing hes done for the good of this community.Hes a low-down nasty cowardly thing and not a gentleman.Hes pathetic.A liar, crook, and a fool.I'm sorry people spend time taking up for him,he aint worth it.A sorry person at that.
