Why not? Teachers are supposed to watch out for any signs that a student is unhealthy, whether it be lice or sickness. Given the evidence that childhood obesity can lead to more troubles as an adult why shouldn't they let the parents know. Maybe it will be a wakeup call for some of them to turn off the tv and cut back on their kids soda. Before anyone jumps my ass i know not all overweight kids fall into this category.

Do you really think a parent doesn't know if their kid is "fat"? I have an idea. Why don't we all just become robots? That way the government could just jump to inserting some kind of disc into our bodies and program us to do whatever they tell us to do. Do you really want some fat azz teacher telling you that your kid is fat? I walk through the schools fairly often and from what I am seeing, the teachers needs to get their own fat issues fixed before having the nerve to send a note home to mommy and daddy that "little johnny is fat". What is the USA coming to?

Apparently they don't know their kids are fat assess or they just don't care. Either way they need to straighten up and become a good parent, not deadbeat, piece of trash, that most parents in Gville are.

Hold up. I got one of those letters from school last year. My son is husky. I know this, and I don't need a letter to tell me what I already know. He plays sports, plays outside, eats right, stays away from sweets and sodas, and he walks on the treadmill in his room. I have had him tested for various health concerns, and nothing shows up. Don't assume that parents who have bigger children are trash, they are deadbeats, or they don't care. I work full time, I don't lay up on my a$$, and I do care. I think it's sad that the school can send out a letter about it, but they can't have gym everyday. There is nothing in this town for kids to do on top of it. PS- What kind of human are you to call a child a fata$$ anyway? Exactly how much do you weigh in at? Humm.....

So what is the difference between a letter saying the kid is not reading well or is not understanding math and a letter saying saying they are overweight? I bet you the number of kids that are overweight because they have a poor diet and don't exercise outnumber the kids like Jenny described 3-1. Something has to change. If it takes the parents getting a letter in the mail then so be it. Maybe instead of getting defensive like everyone does maybe they will actually do something about it.

My children are small to average in size. When I received this same letter, I suppose I didn't give the matter much thought. However, I must agree with Jenny. How can our schools try to educate parents on the importance of physical education when this subject isn't practiced daily at the school. My oldest child had a whole semester this year with no PE class. I can remember other grades where PE was every other day. I agree that parents should go that extra mile to teach their children the importance of a healthy diet. However, I'm a big fan of practice what you preach.

Is a fat letter one that has several pages stuffed in a tiny envelope?
