I totally understand everybody's frustration and I like almost everybody don't want my taxes raised any more than is needed. My question is let's say we get a new county mayor and 21 new commissioners it still doesn't solve the problems. Lets look at the state numbers which don't lie. Our county school system ranks 132 out of 136 in local funding even after the tax raise last year this is a solid fact. That is absolutely pitiful that places like Hancock, Hawkins, Carter, Johnson and Cocke Counties are spending more per child than we are. Either pay more into the system or consolidate schools. You all remember the uproar over Glenwood last year. We can't have it both ways we either pay for all or we close some only two options we have. Next we have the 81st lowest tax rate out of 95 counties in the state of Tennessee once again a state fact. Greene county is in the top 50% of wealth once again verified by the state. All of the above counties I mentioned have a higher tax rate and are not as wealthy. You constantly hear people complaining about the roads, schools, convenience centers, stray animals, places not mowed and others. So my question is what services does people totally want cut out and how would a whole new group of commissioners be able to provide these services without more money. Gas, electricity , materials and so on are going up on county government just like it is in our own households.

If you lose your job you don't go out and buy a new car. Right? It is the same with anything else you need in life. Americans have had it good for so long it is hard for any of us to realize things have changed. The people don't have any more to give right now. You all don't seem to understand that so much of what we have are out "wants" and not our "needs". There is a difference. We have people serving who either can't or won't see the whole picture. Times are changing like it or not. My kid says a great many kids get free meals. Well, that should tell you how bad things are. Where did all the good old common sense go?

Someone definitely should run against the Clerk who just made the papers...But, if someone runs, it will just be the same old tired azzed group of people. I'd run and I can guarantee you that I wouldn't sexually harass any men or women there, but I wouldn't have a chance. That's unfortunately the way it is around here...

Nope not at all. I just am stating the facts and would like to see what people's opinion of how to fix the problem. 90% of the people set around and complain and won't do anything to help fix the issues. So slick what's your answers to our county issues concerning these things and do you seriously feel our county should rank that low in the state.

see now here you go. I simply asked the question asking for ideas to help. I never said by any means I had the answers but as I can tell you want to get pissed and start Arguing. That's the problem in this county now and is why we are we're we are. County vs City Mosheim against Baileyton our own County Departments against each other and then citizens against the schools the sherif dept the road dept. if this continues then don't get on here and bitch about no jobs or nowhere or nothing to do for our kids or complain about the roads or anything else. You get what you pay for and as I said state numbers don't lie. We pay very little taxes combined to other places and that's why they have more then we do plain and simple.. People want all the services but they don't want to pay for them well folks get in the real world those days are over.

simple ..... Run for an elected office and be part of the solution. You evidently have plenty of money. You go right ahead and pay all the taxes you want to . I' m sure the government will take it. Don't preach to the rest of us about giving more of our hard earned dollars to anyone. Get your handout of my pocketbook. I already work half a year before I make any money just to pay all kinds of taxes.

Had I known years ago what I know today, I would have LOVED to try to go into politics, however, I doubt I would last too long, even if I could get elected. My big mouth would get me in trouble.(GRIN And no, I'm not from around here. It's pretty much this way wherever you live.. the ones with money and old family ties always seem to run the show. To get them out of office is like getting rid of cockroaches... nearly impossible. lol

So close Glenwood.. it won't kill the kids to have to ride the bus a little longer. Seriously. I rode the bus 10 miles one way and I not only survived, I thrived. Skipped the 3rd grade and graduated at 16 years of age. If that is something that seriously saves money, then do it. Get rid of some of the "bureaucrats" in the school system.. We pay exorbitant salaries and as you say, we don't seem to be getting much for our money do we? IT's all b.s. and political in school anyway. But you can't tell me there's not a lot of fraud, waste and abuse (to use the catch words) in the school system.

And what is Greeneville getting for the fancy manager they hired? Anyone seeing any results of that money being spent?

Some of the salaries are set at the state level, but let's take a look at the guy from the annex who is in the papers? I think he's making around $75,000... for what? There are others who are making large amounts of money and I truly don't see what they are accomplishing... Look around... there's a lot of county employees that should be let go and start over...But, shrugs... it won't so, then we have the arguments that you put forth and people only want the tax papers to pony up more tax money. Ridiculous.

If some outside would SERIOUSLY look at both the county and city budgets, I guarantee you there would be some wiggle room to save some money. But, no one wants to do that.... only want to bleat and plead for money tax money from us. That's b.s.

Oh and in my home state.. they just got through last year consolidating schools.. made a central high school county-wide... people bitched and moaned and complained, but the kids seem to be okay with it and it is saving a lot of money... Do it! I mean, the fancy-smancey Greene Devils might (horror!) have to change uniforms and give up their name, but it could all be seriously looked at and see if it's viable around here.

It never ceases to amaze me how much public officials make given their lack of experience, vigor to get the job done & oh yeah their personality. I especially like those boring men who are personable during election year but won't give anyone without political clout the time of day when the election dust settles ;-) Dont ya love it? I think it would be refreshing to have quality female candidates for local offices. You might inspire me to run! LMBO

Danny Green is running for Sheriff. I have known him for more than 15 years. He is a great man and it's time for a new sheriff Steve has been in too long.
My opinion of Danny Green is not the same. I have had personal experience with him and my son which is disabled. He was rude, abusive and did not show any respect for anyone. If anyone reading this out there that has family that is mentally disabled don't vote for Danny Green that would be a mistake.
