The whole thing is sad and families will forever be affected and apparently a Good man loss is life. Unfortunately, it is a symptom of a greater problem and that is there were indications of problems earlier and they were ignored and possibly should have been evaluated then! Their is always two sides to every altercation and in Greene County Court System all sides are not heard! It tends to be a rush to judgment without due process.

There's a difference in abuse and busting that tail with a switch or belt. I got plenty growing up and it didn't kill me! I think that's what's wrong with society today.. Parents are either scared or to lazy to discipline there kids hiding behind the fear of "child abuse" if you don't know the difference in discipline or abuse them maybe you don't need children! I was raised with discipline and manners and kids now a days don't have them!!!!
My step dad always made the punishment fit the crime. He didn't like to whip us but he would if we needed it. By we I mean his daughter and me.
I love him like a real dad. He was good to us but we respected him and mom.
Once I snuck out the window to go to a party. They grounded me. I was about 16. I thought the grounding was a piece of cake so when I got caught doing it again he whipped me striped. I didn't do that again.
I back talked mom a few times and after I was grounded and warned the next time I was picking myself up out of the floor with a busted lip. Watched what came out of my mouth after that.
Kids have no respect for anyone these days. Some of them need to pick their selves up from the floor.

All of the post so far have some truth and fact. And yes I got my butt busted growing up and I never dared to tell my mom and dad no or talk back because I knew what the consequences were. I spent time with my grandparents, and was around aunts and uncles and I had respect for all of them because in my family any of the afore mention would have busted my butt. I do think parents should show love, understanding, talk with their children, and do things as a family. I also think that teaching consequences of behavior is a must." In the bible God stated spare the rod spoil the child". I pray for these families and their own circumstances. I am sure the families are asking what did we do wrong and what could we have done differently and it is sad that they must go through this.

I would like to say something,I am probley older then most of you on here so speaking from my experience I will say this.It dont matter how well you raise your kids. Rather you whip them or spank them or ground them I have learned after a child reaches a certain age they are going to do what they want to do.As a parent you do the best you can do and pray for the best. But bottom line they are responsible for their own actions. One or all of those children (teens) killed an Innocent human being. Why? Was the parent being a parent.Probley and that is probley what made the young man mad. Were the others involved Yes. How you say well they chose to stay and watch or was involved or are guilty by association. They had the choice to leave ,call the police(Iam sure they all had cellphones) This is my own opinion.Yes they say this boy was trouble Why were the others hanging with him if they knew that ? I say they all are equally responsible. That man didn't have to die.Whatever excuse they make to try to make to justify what they did its still wrong! Plain and simple so I hope they all get tried as adults and they all get punished for the crime they had part in.It is very sad when Children Yes children(underage) commit crimes. But bottom line if they get away with it they may commit another and another. They need not cry now they should of thought of that before the crime was committed and to think of the heartbreak the parents and families have to go through and the embarrassment. That is who I feel sorry for These kids should of thought of that too and all for the love of ? now will suffer their whole life for it Thats a shame.

How is this double jeopardy thing going to work, they are being charged there, you know they want to charge them here, and we all know it is the same charges.

They can't be charged for murder there I don't think. I would guess they would be charged with evading and gun charges there. Those will probably be waved in order to send them back here for murder charges. Just a guess but I don't think you can be charged in a place where you didn't commit the crime.

I'm glad you brought up shame, not something children, or adults have to feel anymore. Everything has become acceptable it seems. Shame, and embarrassment are powerful emotions, but no longer PC.IMO

im Roberts uncle and his mother doesn't have the respect to put in his obit that Robert has a sister and a father that haven't been notified of his death all because they don't wont them at the funeral. its disrespectful. Robert hated his stepfather and had nothing to do with his mother because of him , neither did his sister who hates Rob Oneil. this is all about money and what Robert had, they want to sell everything and run back to Alabama with the money before his father or sister could make a claim on the estate, well guess what I have been notified that his father was located and will show up at funeral, I will do everything in my power to get a judges orders that everything be put in a trust to hire an attorney for zacks defense and that his mother CANT RUN BACK TO ALABAMA WITH THE MONEY

I am so saddened that Richards life had to end in such a horrible act. How sad that the family was torn apart. Can't imagine the heart breaks he had on this Earth, but I believe he was a godly man and is now united with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Rest in peace, Robert.

Does any one know where the suspects went to School, and if they had
been in trouble before. How did Zack know them.

You are correct. Heard an interview with the sheriff from there yesterday. He said they would also be charged with being in a stolen vehicle. It will probably take some time to get them back here since it involves juvenile court. He also said when they were captured, only one of the four acted like he thought a 15 or 16 year old would act being involved and arrested for this kind of crime. He said three of them were just calm as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. A news reporter asked how much they thought this cost the state of South Carolina, being that there were more than 90 patrol cars at the seen. He said he couldn't begin to estimate that.

Also be charged with the stolen vehicle, so they will be charged twice with the same crime?

They need to be punished but I can't see how they can be charged twice for the same thing, am I just truly missing something?

I'm not understanding your question. What crime are they being charged twice for?

Rose, I agree with EVERYTHING you said. Let us NOT try and make excuses for THOSE that have MORE MONEY or MORE FAMILY and SUPPORT but FOLLOW THE LAW!

When the process is OVER, then take a GOOD LONG LOOK at SCHOOLS, SOCIAL SERVICES, and the JUVENILE COURTS along with SERVICES and come up with a BETTER WAY to support children and FAMILIES!

Okay it is my understanding that S.C is charging them with left over 1000.00 for the stolen van, as is Greene County, and that they are going in front of the judge Monday, and extradition might take awhile.

Did I not comprehend that correctly, or did I miss read it?

when you cross state lines with stolen property both states can charge you 1 for stealing and 1 for being in possession of stolen property

As the other poster said they are being charged in each state with the violation. Those are violations that follow you. I doubt if greeneville will go through with those two charges. Or they will get tossed in a plea offer.
