Eastwood by a long shot. Wayne always walked around all stiff and acted like he was reading everything he said. He also must have been quite stupid being as he lost a lung to cancer from smoking and never put them down till he died from cancer from smoking in the other lung. Funny thing bout Eastwood is, he played in movies with tons of gun play, but in all actuality totally opposes guns altogether.
The comparison is a bit unfair. John Wayne's on-screen image was shaped in the 30's--50's. Basically, the good guy always won out in the end. Clint Eastwood is a product of the 60's to present. More multi-dimensional and daring in the roles he played. Wayne died of stomach cancer. He credited learning his characteristic walk to Gary Cooper. I admire both their work--just have a personal preference for John Wayne.

Who brought up the term "right wing Republican supporter?" Why did Cabbage Head bring it up if not to denigrate? He is a known Obama nut swinger.

I thought it was a very intelligent question. It actually shows that Kohlrabi knows more than the average bear. Well played.
By the way Kohlrabi, I enjoy eating you but sometimes you can get a little woody for my taste. Probably because your swollen stem is very large.

I brought it up because both men were/are unashamedly so in addition to their acting profession. My intent was NOT to be politically critical.

In the final analysis, John Wayne acted his John Wayne personna both on and off the screen. All roles were basically HIM! I like it but admit the limitations.

clint eastwood.(patrick wayne,a better actor than his father?)television repeats of randolph scott movies in britain have made him a more popular western star than either eastwood or wayne.(it"s a shame tom selleck output of westerns was so few)on john wayne side you could say he made westerns.clint eastwood, although a better actor.theres long gaps between them.(it" interesting that if patrick wayne had ignored his critics he may succeeded his father in popularity?).

I think part of the argument for Eastwood would be that he did so much more than just westerns. But as the other poster said at that time Hollywood didn't need John Wayne to play different roles. He was a cash cow as the slow talking cowboy. Not to say he didn't play a few different roles but not to the extent of Eastwood. It's kind of like debating baseball players from different eras. Very difficult to do.

Both Kohlrabi and P2BN said perfectly what I wanted to say about John Wayne coming from a different era and Eastwood's diversity. So I'll just defer to their statements in total agreement. (Eastwood got my vote.)
