I was looking to sign my boy up with a new activity since basketball is over soon. I can't seem to find much for this time of year tho. I am reaching out to the Topix community to see what experiences everyone has had with local clubs.

It's the beginning of baseball/softball season for Greeneville Parks and Rec. They are signing kids up now.

Your NOT going to find that in Greeneville,Tn.! This place is for the Retired or Disability grabbing low-lives.......not kids anymore. By the way, if you want your kid to join something here, you better have plenty of money and/or relatives that are running it, Greeneville doesn't like outsiders coming in on their territories!

What age? I know a lot of leagues begin at the age of 5. YMCA has soccer coming for 5 and up. If younger there is not much.

Hey angryguy, calm down. He is nine and has been in sports for years. Thanks for the responses. I am considering the soccer but he's not much for baseball. Also, I called the bowling alley and they have a league for his age. I was looking for something outside of the box because he has seemingly played everything. Soccer is looking the best at this point.

Yea, I got lucky with him in that dept. He has an iPod and plays it some but he will throw it down real quick like if I offer to pass a football. Lol

We were new to this community with two children in elementary. We signed our youngest up for county ball in third grade. Angry guy has a bit of point about having local connections. However, we went to the tryouts at rec and spoke personally with Coach Steve Love. Our child had no sports experience, but was very athletic and coordinated. I think Coach Steve took pity on us...being new and all...and took our child onto his team. He was a great coach...we met plenty of others who were not so great in terms of the way they berrated their players. If he is still coaching and your child is interested in baseball, I would highly recommend you seek him out.
Even after becoming one of the best players on his county team and three years playing there, our child could NOT get a spot on his school's team. It was filled with teacher's children and children whose parents ran the school's Booster Club.

Oops, somehow I missed your response regarding baseball before I posted. Soccer is probably your best bet here, lots of long time locals think it's a sissy sport and actually force their boys to play baseball, basketball and football, something about carrying on the family legacy... My boys also liked gymnastics when they were younger. I don't know if there are any boys taking gymnastics locally. We were living elsewhere when they were in this sport. You might see if the Y has swimming, etc. as well.

Thanks for you posts. Although, I have never felt or had any inkling of being an outsider just because I'm not a "good ol' boy." I've lived here forever but idk a lot of people. I'm just always polite and talk to the coaches every chance I get. It always pays off to make the coaches remember you as well as your children. I don't mind a little special treatment just because they like me better than most. I'm a likable guy, what can I say?
