The house you see in the picture above is located on Kennytown Rd. in the Baileyton/Ottway community. It sits on about 50 acres or so. There was a total of 100 acres. It is currently leased and operating as a dairy farm. The farm was sold at auction in 2008 by Carter Real Estate and Auction. The Dorothy Hawkins estate also had several other properties as well including 2 horse barns near NGHS. John R. Carter bought the farm with the house pictured above. He sold off the other side of the road. John R also bought the farm with the big horse barn and doc's old clinic. I believe thats the one on Doc Hawkins Rd.
The big horse barn was in need of repair at auction time as were the house and clinic. They may have had some work done on it by now. The horse barn on Old Baileyton Rd. was the newer of the two. Carter Real Estate and Auction sold all of the Hawkins properties. The last one was sold in 2009 being the large brick home in Tusculum.
Dorothy Hawkins died before 2008. She had been estranged from her daughter Judy for some time. Dorothy became befriended by a "predator of older people" type who ultimately took much of her money and land holdings. There were several court cases and some of the properties were returned. Kind of a sad situaton in the end.

I am Dr. Hawkins Granddaughter,Vickie. My Grandfather passed when I was only 12yrs old, but I spent a lot of time in that house as a child, before he passed and after. My Grandmother remained in that house until the late 90's and later moved to one of their other residences. As a child,I used to play in that doctors office while he treated patients. No one seemed to mind. I recall patients bringing my grandfather, "Daddy Doc", as I called him, pies and live chickens for payment if they could not afford their treatment. He was just fine with that. He was an eccentric character and quite loved by the locals. My email is [email protected] I currently live in Johnson City. Vickie
