Does anyone have any information on this? I drove by last night and there were cops everywhere- I was told there was a riot. I sure hope everyone involved is ok if this is true.

Seeing that the post was made in this forum, my educated guess would be Greeneville.

For anyone else honestly concerned:

Flooding occurred in the Greene County Detention Center Tuesday night after an inmate broke a fire sprinkler head, prompting other inmates to do the same thing.

The result was five damaged sprinkler heads in three of the four jail "pods" housing inmates, along with about 100 damaged ceiling tiles and flooding in offices, the booking area and storage rooms downstairs.

Correction officers, sheriff's deputies and Greeneville police officers were called in to get the situation under control.

Some boxes of records were "wet and soaked" with water and will have to be dried out, Sheriff Steve Burns said. Inmates remained in lockdown this morning as the jail cleanup continued.

And we tax payers will be paying for the damage.

I personally think the boy, and yes I said BOY, that was responsible should pay- dong just give him more time... That's free food and a roof over his head, make him pay physically (more comm svc) and also pay the cost of damages!

I think it would also be helpful if they would allow Bible studies and church groups to come and minister. My church was turned away. What they are doing now is not helping, so why not go out on a limb and try something different?

Bible studies aren't going to change any of those a--holes... they need more severe punishment to teach them a lesson... otherwise, they will do it again and laugh at the taxpayers who have to pay for these "outbreaks"...

If that's true, why is it not working? Clearly, crime is getting worse but conditions at the jail are reportedly horrible (according to the corrections institute who said the jail fails to meet even basic standards as reported by the Greeneville Sun June 20, 2012). So the question remains, what would be the harm in bringing God "to the least of these"? As a Christians we are called to love everyone: "if you love those that love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?" Matthew 5:43-47. Why will sheriff Burns an Neil Matthews not let God in? Are they atheists or something? Do they think bible studies would be "too fun?" Jesus reminds us in Matthew 5:7, "blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy." That's pretty clear.

I totally agree. Only God can help with all the drugs in Greene County. I know a person can turn his/her live around if they get saved. I don't know if Steve Burns is an atheist or not, but he does not need to run our Sheriff department. Everyone thinks that the inmates have it made in that jail but they don't. You need to think about what if that was your loved one in the jail. Everyone makes mistakes. We just hope that they will learn from their mistakes and do better. All of those inmates are someone's mother, father, sister, brother, aunt or uncle or child. They deserve love just like anyone else.

These morons are fed 3 meals a day. If there wasn't so many of these loser thieves and druggies in there then the county can spend more on food, and conditions. Instead the county or should I say the lawful citizens of this county have to pay to fix what these crybabies broke or messed up. Waaaaah I'm in jail feel sorry for me not the people I stole from. Waaaaah I'm in jail feed me better since I spent all my families money on roxys and they have nothing to eat Waaaaah I'm in jail what about my rights forget those I hurt to get in here.
