Can someone tell me if this a good route to go for my child. He is wanting to play. I want more than just a league where everyone gets to play. I want to put him in a very competitive league. Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.

Depending on age, this could be a very positive experience. The OLDER players have Coaches from Tusculum College and the Community and they work them hard... no YMCA type of "you don't have to run, you don't have to try"... the player will LEARN from these people on Galaxy BUT remember, it's a commitment to WORK HARD. I think the younger players are treated age appropiate...

Lots of money and time involved

As the poster above said, Galaxy is expensive and time-consuming. But, I think it is very rewarding for the child and parent(s). Fees for a season will run you around $250 -$400. Your first season will be more expensive because you have to buy uniforms.(Buy a size up and they last longer!)
Be prepared to travel most weekends out of the season - at least 3 Saturdays and sometimes Sunday in a month. Most friendlies are in Greeneville, Morristown, and Knoxville. Tournaments (maybe 3-4 a season) are usually further away.
Practice is usually 2 - 3 times a week in the evening for about 1 1/2 hours.
Galaxy is not like the YMCA in that you have to earn your spot on the team. If you are not playing well, you will not play. Fairly straight-forward.
Hope some of that helps!
