I have always heard positive things about mr Buchanan but lately it seems his coaching of the team is centered on a few players instead of rotating the talent he has in the bench. Cloud land beat ng by depth of abilities. Unaka beat Ng by out hustling. SG beat ng by stamina in the 4th. & Hampton beat ng after iver coming a 14 pt deficit. The game plan is noneorking. As good as the 5 starters for NG are thy can't be expected to play the entire game with out becoming winded. So why keep all the other girls suited up and ready to play but never put them in. What happens if you lose a starter? Or someone leaves the game due to illness or injury? The bench needs in game experience or they can't help win games. This coach has a talented bench that he could use one or two at a time mixed with starters and have a very effective squad on the floor. What is the point in playing the same 5 players the whole game - every game. They are still losing games - its not like those are the work horses and they get the W. NG was ranked in the state and now they can't win a game. Seems like something needs to be altered a little or at least see what the bench can offer during rest time for the starters???? Any observations ???? I think the coach has potential to take this team to state but he better realize it takes more than 5 girls to get there.

Wow. James was the one coach I never expected to see a thread on. Do you remember what NG girls basketball was like before he took over? Yes they had an occasional good season but nothing consistent. He is the only coach in the county to take his team to the state finals. I think he has earned the right to coach his team the way he sees fit. There is something he sees that leads him to play his players the way he does. I would guess any other team in Greene County would be pleased to have him as a coach.

I'm not saying hes horrible I'm saying that there is a lot of talent bein wasted while he relies on 5 girls to get the job done every game. I'm not bashing the coach, his methods or what not ( per say) I'm just confused on why the other girls need to devote so much time to practices and out of town scrimmages when they know they will never step on the floor. It's not like pee wee ball where everyone plays to be fair - its high school! and I understand the desire to win and make a statement but as good as the starters are that's a lot of unneccessary pressure when u have such a talented bench. Then to play a 6 footer at the top of the key the entire game?? Why.. even the pros know that kind of height belongs near the goal on offense even if the talent is there for the long ball. The post shouldnt pull a three every time down the court and leave small guards to fight for the rebounds. I just wish someone could explain to me why he doesn't sub - that's my only real concern. Not his methods or the losing of games- just why depend solely on 5 players ( continuing to lose and fall further down the state standings) when u have great talent there on the bench. Give the starters time To breath and let the bench learn some. NG will lose 3 starters next season - someone will have to be able to execute the plays or next season will be a losing season also.

I believe you are from South Greene High School and are trying to start something about our fine coach. Nobody agrees with you. We have a good coach -- not a perfect coach -- but a good coach so get off his back. If you want to complain let your kid go to South Greene -- but wait, they probably already do. North Greene parents are nothing like South Greene parents -- so just go back to the South Greene High School Coaching thread and leave us alone.

I don't have anyone on a team there. I'm simply stating that everyone can see that loss after loss the NG coach tries to ride the same players. If he would use the bench he has offensive, defensive, height, and ball handlers just sitting there. Why fall out of state rankings when you have alternate potentials in other players. I'm not sayig any are better than the rest or that the coach is insufficient - people are twisting my words into complaints. All I am saying is if your going to continue to lose why leave the girls on the bench? True in any sport with any coach. If your up alot - put Em in. If your down a lot ( beyond repair) let em play. That's how they learn and become molded into the great athletes! You merely have to give them an opportunity!

You hit the nail on the head!! If anything he takes the starters out too often and the bench players make too many mistakes. This has to be a disgruntled parent!

Just ignore these people from South Greene. I'm guessing they are starting this stuff cause they know North Greene will kick their behinds next year. See South Greene people, you won't find an enormous amount of folks who dislike our coach. Try as you from South Greene may, the only folks who are going to get grief from North Greene are those who put bad things on here about our coach.

Think as you wish that Ng coach has all the potential in the world - its just poorly executed. State was a major option for this team this year and they fall further and further down the rankings with each loss.

I normally don't comment on threads but this one I felt like I needed to say something. Regardless of who may have started this thread, whether it be someone from another school or an angry NG parent that their kid isn't getting enough time on the court or gets constructive criticism for mistakes when their kid does play, one thing I've noticed about some parents, not all, at that school by attending games is regardless of the sport, some of the parents do not support the coaches when the team isn't winning or of their son or daughter doesn't get to play. That's a sad fact I have noticed from football on into basketball. So if the parents don't think the coaches NG has are doing a good enough job, go try coaching for a while.

I agree that coaching could be difficult - I take nothing away from coaching being a tough spot. But when the girls go to practice at 6 am sometimes and practice everyday all season long it's a lot to ask of teenagers who are working on athletic and academics as well as some sort of social emotional growth as people. Why spend all those waking hours committing to something and a coach When one would have to begin to feel useless after never seeing the floor in play time. I can see how it sounds disgruntled or even bitter and it's not neant that way. like I said I don't have a child involved - but come on. 6 am practices then straight into school time and walk throughs after school. It's a lot of hours of commitment for what??? Well to be called part of a team? Where is the team when it's always the same people. A lot of the other schools are having the same problems. West greene girls have lost more than a few players this season over similar opinions. If a student desires to play a sport the student should try out - if the student makes the cut & earns a jersey the student should be viewed as good enough to honor the jersey and allowed to demonstrate the talent that landed him/ her in the jersey in the first place.
I strongly agree with u

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm glad someone else sees it also. 6AM practices, practice after school sometimes till 7PM, walk throughs and practice before games is all these girls are getting done. They are dedicating every waking moment to the team when their not in class. I know the majority of the girls, and they are all great kids. Athletically speaking, there is not one girl on the team that is better than the others. They are all great! He just chooses to play favorites, putting a handful in the spotlight. It use to be that freshman didn't get to play in the varsity games and if they did it wasn't for long. Now he's making older, more experienced girls ride the bench so the freshman can play. How fair is that, when they have more experience and dedicate as much time? I figure it's all about school politics and who's friends with who. Obviously playing into school politics is not great for a game plan, because it's not working for him. The team has great potential to go all the way, but the I'll make the people happy that I like best attitude that he's coming off with isn't getting the job done. Yes, play the younger girls, but don't sh*t on the older one's because you want to play favorites either. They have been there longer and have more experience, the freshman will have. their day. I know coach maybe a good man, but politics is clouding judgment of what's fair.

Blame the mobile network. I'm not in Charlotte, and I doubt the other poster is either. I assure you that we are not one in the same. I don't know them and they don't know me. I'm sitting here in Greene Co. posting from a phone. Take it up with Verizon if it seems stupid to you. What looks stupid is your inability to use grammar.

Coach buchanon is a very good coach. if u dont like him simply dont go watch him or his team?? Instead of start a topix thread. dam u ppl are pathetic. Almost every highschool coach keeps their starting five in when the game is close. but i have saw coach buchanon play about eight girls other than his starting five. so know what ur talkin about before u open ur big mouth.
