No. The greedy CEO was the downfall. They didn't want to compromise with the unions so instead they locked the doors in their face.
This is a free market. Shit happens. I mean, come on. How many boxes of Twinkies have you bought in the last month? How about the last year? Don't complain when you weren't buying the products that much. Eat a Little Debbie snack and call it a day.

It isn't just twinkies. They had a lot more brands and products. Merita, Wonder Bread, Eddy's, and a lot more. They had a wide ranging line up of back goods too. It really isn't so much about whether we bought the products it is more about the people to me. 18,000 people unemployed at a time where jobs are scarce. To me, whether it was President Obama or the CEO is irrelevant.

Well said. It is unfortunate to see another company fail and cost so many jobs. It certainly doesn't help that, for better or worse, twinkies and several of the other brands are rather nostalgic, a small symbol of Americana. It sounds as though the failure of the company was the result of a perfect storm of events, from high level mismanagement, the union, and the volatile economy.

They probably just shut down to get rid of the union, then will start back up with a different name or somebody will buy the whole thing then open it. Back up.

Oh and those wages and benefits they had are gone for good. Shouldn't have got so greedy.

You're right, Pretend, and unfortunately in the war of labor, the innocent worker simply trying to make a living is usually the only real casualty in the end. Sad for the workers and their families.(-:
