We do not have that in Greeneville.
Some questions that many of us would love to see the Greeneville Sun ask our elected and unelected officials:
Why were the microphones not turned on at the public meeting of the IDB?
Why were all the seats packed with USN employees, forcing the public to stand in the back of the room?(where they could not hear a word said)
Why was Mayor Broyles reaction so hostile?
Why were so many Police Officers there? Was trouble expected? Planned for? HOPED FOR?
Why did they arrest Eddie for asking them to speak up? Is this illegal now in Greeneville?
Why did they force Eddie to WALK from Greeneville Light and Power to the County Jail?(for most people this would not be a bad walk but the man is 76 years old and not in good health!)
Which officer at the jail threatened Eddie with "concrete time", and is that typical Greene County jail procedure? To make threats to people who have been arrested but not convicted of any crime?
Someone call WJHL because our "journalists" do not seem to be the least bit interested in ANY of these questions!
LOL, you put these questions on a gutter forum instead of sending a "letter to the editor" and attaching your name to it?
Are you afraid to attach your name to these questions in the paper?
Cowardly posts on Topix are the way to go.....huh?

I expect pretty much what they give.
Setting expectations too high will always disappoint.
Set the bar low and be pleasantly surprised if they manage to get beyond it.

We need a new newspaper in this town...

The Screaming HAWK Times

A newspaper that keeps abreast of the HAWK's legislative victories in Nashville. We could also detail women that need a good pimp slap - like women who get caught with pills or DUI, or being uppity.

A newspaper for Everyone!

We all need to forward this to WJHL and the Knoxville News Sentinel and anywhere else there is a real newspaper or journalists.

I did not bother emailing the Sun because we know that will be ignored don't we?

Add to that:

where did the Sun reporter(s) sit (stand?) in order to be able to report the story?
could the Sun rep. hear, or did the Sun rep. make an audio recording of the meeting?
same questions for WGRV (if they were there).
do cops wear nametags...was Officer Hixson wearing a name tag? is that little detail on video...(overholt asked him what his name was, according to Overholt's open letter) ditto for name tags re the other officers involved....maybe if you're being arrested on 2 trumped up charges it just doesn't occur to you to read the name tag, or maybe if you're 76 your eyesight is not the greatest and in any case you might need glasses to read that ID...
do the police (including Cannon) usually take marching orders from the county mayor, no matter how dumb the order.....etc etc .....
and a possible question for the audience at large: want a front row seat at the next future ideal monkey (hear no speak no see no) show? get hold of a US Nitrogen cap and dont wear it backwards

Wonder of wonders, the Greeneville Sun actually had a story about the international and national and local reactions to Eddie's arrest!

I suppose that, if a story gets big enough you cannot ignore it forever!

'letters to the editor,' signed or unsigned, are subject to review by said editor. Some of those letters can be and are deemed 'unsuitable' and consigned to the circular file--never seen by the readers. topix, reputation aside, allows questions and comments to be put out to the public without such scrutiny. the quality of the questions and comments is not the issue.

Gr Sun SPORTS...
I they want to sell more papers they should report the local elementary & high school sports equally. It would be nice to see ALL schools sports covered as well as GHS & GMS. Always more & bigger pictures & articles of whatever they do while the other schools get a brief line or two & no pics. They will have whole pages of adult softball results & not much about the children's rec league games & the Astros (which NO ONE cares about). If they're a business trying to make money then they need to think about supplying their customers with the news they really want instead of catering to a handful. In case they haven't noticed the majority of their customers live in the county & their children attend county schools. Parents & grandparents will buy a paper to read & save clippings of their children/grandchildren.
Last week they had a story about full pads practice starting in high school football their was a huge pic of a GHS player along with a lengthy article about them. The four county high schools got a brief couple of paragraphs & smaller pis while about 75% of the article was about one city school. REDICULOUS!
Maybe they should try even coverage of all teams & see if their sales improve this year?Hmmm? Also, their pics you can buy are priced outrageously. Instead of $6 a pic they should try $1 & see if that didn't increase sales or even give a half off discount to subscription holders.
Think about it Gr Sun.

the story about Teddy appeared weeks after the arrest, after the dealmaking

the story of Nitro/IDB/Overholt (occurred 7/18, court appearance 7/21, Russia Today had it by 7/22) the story's spread.......appeared in the Sun when?....

the Sun sits on stories for weeks, tames them, consults theirs friends they must not offend, counts on the unedited pr of business handouts and press releases. but you can always count on the Sun for the latest in Billy Graham, hot off the presses. in god we trust, but not our government or newspaper

yes more fairness in sports reporting and pix would be nice, but GHS is closer to the Sun office than the county schools....you want the Sun boys to travel? turn the whole paper into a sports rag, why not. nothing is more important to red blooded american boys, future business and governmental leaders of america and greeneville (like mayor wt daniels of the industrial development board and berkeley bell the district attorney) than sports. especially football. and yes the photos are wildly overpriced. is everyone ordering hundreds of copies of photos of the August calendar girl......is that calendar girl 12 times a year the reliable and secret source of Sun revenue?

Well sure every story gotta be cleared with the Good Old Boys. Wouldn't want old Boss Hogg, I mean, Boss Broyles, upset now would we?
