I heard that Jeff Sowers arrested 4 "kids" on West Irish Street during the recent snowstorm for throwing a (yes, as I understand it ONE) snowball at his car... the kids were I admit 18 - but most were a very young 18 - and I wonder why a respected, veteran Greeneville Police Officer would not have just "talked to them" instead of filing FELONY charges against these boys, who have never been in trouble before ?

What's 'a very young 18' in a court of law?

could have but didn't. Do you remember being young? It's disappointing to think one snowball may cause some kids to have felonys on their record. How would you fell if it was you or your kid? That cop could have talked to the kids maybe even given them a small fine. Do me a favor and go die in a fire.

By "Young 18" , I mean that the boys are not sophisticated, worldly kids - they are just local kids ( one is a Eagle Scout, scouting highest honor ; one getting ready to enlist in the Navy ) and not "harden street kids". In a Court of Law that will not mean much but when you read THE SUN and see all the "tough, rough, tattooed" 18 year olds being arrested for selling drugs, shop lifting, etc - you wonder why such harsh treatment for what I consider a minor incident. Yes - might have caused a serious accident except that there was very little traffic during the period of "the assault" and the posted speed limit is 25 mph. BTW - the "snowball" never hit the car, as I understand it... maybe Sowers had had a bad day or was irritated with something, but to file Felony charges seems an abuse of power and we know that he would never do anything like that.

No - not their moma nor papa ... just hate to see the police use their "power" in unnecessary ways. Abuse of power just erodes the respect that the general public have for law enforcement. If I had been The Officer, I would have probably gotten out of the car (his private vehicle, not a city car) and talked to them and explained the "serious problem" they could have caused and if I thought they needed a more serious "scare", maybe a ride to the Police Station for a dressing down... oh well - I'm older and that was the way my hometown Police handled minor problems when I was young - not filing Felony charges that have far reaching consequences for their future.

you could argue hypotheticals till your blue in the face. The fact is the punishment doesn't fit the crime. Your an idiot to think otherwise.

One snowball shouldn't screw these kids futures! I'm I alone here? You "adults" are what's wrong with this town and the direction it's headed. If that snowball was a bullet or even a spear your argument would have legs to stand on.

they weren't felony charges, misdemeanor only. Furthermore they will probably get diversions so it won't go on their records anyway
