Is it any wonder why Southern States have no school shootings, but all the liberal gun-hating yanks and hippies keep getting their dumbasses massacred and wonder why? Now Obama is going to try to take our guns. Prepare for Civil War II when that happens.

There was one in Arkansas about 15 years ago, there was 2 in the Knoxville area in the last 4 or 5 years. Florida had at least one.

VirgInia is Confederate South, but they are no longer what they once were. They are too heavily influenced by DC and lost identity. Virginia is now North. The other shootings, if they occurred, got put down real quick because of guns....that was my point.

Huddling the kiddies in the corner and walking out in single-file lines aren't gonna save lives. That's the liberal teacher union BS and school systems. Give us vouchers so we can choose who to send our kids to school with.

The fact of the matter is that America takes mental illness too lightly! Especially in this area where you have a very under skilled group of mental health workers. On top of that, this state is closing mental health hospitals which offered longer term treatment.

Mental illness is real and it is a factor in these events 1000% of the time.

As far as guns, yesterday several kids were stabbed to death in China. So, if there is an absence of guns, someone who is set on killing will find a way. The lack of an armed cop or cops on the school grounds is what allowed this even to have such a massive body count.

More money HAS to be put into mental health departments. It is the ONLY constant variable in these events.

True. Also Virginia Tech as others mentioned. There was a law school shooting in Southwest Virginia about 10 yrs ago in which 3 were killed & 3 others seriously wounded. Also, Sullivan Central High School in Sullivan Co, Tn nearly had a tragedy when an armed gunmen pointed his loaded weapon at the principal's head. The school resource officer, with HER loaded gun, was able to move the principal from the armed gunman's reign. She also isolated the gunman until deputies arrived & shot the gunman after he pointed the gun at various officers. That happened in 2010.

It also seems like there have been at least two college level shootings very near campuses by deranged students. UNC in 1990 & maybe another one near Virgina Tech. Many school shootings have involved foreign students, but not all have. Sadly, I don't think any school is exempt & completely safe because we live in such unstable times with lots of unstable people. What deprived or cruel person could hurt any innocent people much less cowering young children? Horrendous!:(

Also, forgot to add that three were killed & five wounded in Paducah, KY in 1997. Locally there have been numerous random reports about students bringing firearms or knives to school. Some of the accounts apparently never make the media reports!!!

The pillheads in the south just steal guns, then sell them illegally or trade them for a pill. So keep buying them thar guns so pillheads have something to steal.

Rather than focus on the lack of metal detectors in educational institutions, the government (you know,'we the people'- rolling eyes) will use this tragic event to further justify gun/weapon control. Pardon me, but f*ck the government!

Gun regulation won't stop this. These guns were properly purchased by his mother. He stole them. Most of your gun violence occurs with guns not permitted to the shooter. The schools have to be made safer. Main entrances need to be self contained. This means that once you are in the main office or lobby you cannot access the school without being allowed in. Classroom doors need to be able to be locked down from the central office. It is unthinkable that people can gain access to an entire school by walking in the front doors. My heart aches for the parents and families of the victims. Schools must be made safer.

Probably so. I have no children but cannot imagine losing a child to such a senseless, cruel tragedy. My heart aches for the parents & families who will never get to see these innocent children grow up. The hurt, loss, fear & resulting distrust will stay with these people for generations.:(

You would have to have armed security at every school, every school event, and on every bus to insure safety. It is not possible. Every window is an access point so shatterproof bulletproof glass would be needed. If you make the schools too secure, it prevents easy exit in case of fire, and it could prove an obstacle for law enforcement to gain entry.

Seems to me, if the guy was mentally ill, he would of tried to shoot them with a banana instead of a gun.

You obviously don't know a thing about mental illness.
