Personally I think he's done more than necessary to help save downtown Greeneville - which doesn't want to be saved thanks to "other" landlords... If I were he, I would just invest my money into different venues that would APPRECIATE the efforts but not in this area. Downtown Greeneville is dead and always will be unless something drastic happens...

I wish people would quit perpetuating the myth that downtown Greeneville is dead! There ARE businesses downtown that struggle every day to stay in operation. We advertise and we do whatever we can to say 'WE ARE HERE!'. Please help us by patronizing small businesses which are trying to survive. There are shops and restaurants: Monterrey, Subway, Roberts Furniture, jewelry stores, dry cleaners, hair salons, antiques, used furniture, art galleries, historic sites, museums, etc. These businesses are locally owned, and need customers in order to survive.

It is true that there are many empty buildings, and they belong to Niswonger. I think the plan to Rediscover Greeneville fell by the wayside when the economy tanked. The buildings were gutted, and sadly, they are not maintained; for that Niswonger must assume the responsibility. The buildings are his to do as he pleases, and it is hoped that one day, he will be able to continue with the project. I would live to see Greeneville revived and bustling.

Niswonger has done a lot of good for Greeneville. I hate to think where we would be without his help. I appreciate his investment in my hometown, and I hope his business continues to prosper. Unlike many wealthy people, he puts back into his community. I hope and pray that his project will not be scrapped, and that Greeneville will be rejuvenated into a more vibrant area. If you want Greeneville to survive, then stop saying it's dead, and go spend some money downtown. You'd see it grow if you'd put your money there and help.

All the great must be evil appears the way this thread reads. If it were not for people like Scott this town would be another ghost town, the schools badly behind the national average, and the hospitals laughable. Scott Niswonger moved here when his mother did, saw the opportunity and the need and has filled it. Stop and look where Chuckey Doak HS was 10 years ago, look where Mosheim school was, look at where Greeneville High was... LOOK at all the GOOD he has done for the community before you criticize him and the good he has done. The naysayers say it is all for glory, and so what if it is.... WE as a community are reaping the rewards. I for one have to thank Scott Niswonger for all he has done for us.

Are you kidding yourself or trying to kid us? This town is already a ghost town. Exactly what impact has Niswonger had on reviving this economy and growing the population? Please. Do tell.

Niswonger didn't "save" this town. If anything, he has found a place to make himself a king of the people. He couldn't do this in a big community, because nobody would care. He's a big headed, narcisistic, attention seeker. He doesn't care about this town, or it's residents..please stop making him out to be a God. He found a town for his tax write off's..plain and simple. There wasn't anything "wrong" with this town before he showed up. It was a quaint, small town. Now, it's turning into a Johnson City..which, by the way, is NOT a good thing.

I think it's good that someome as rich as him, actually makes donations to help the community. NOT SAYING HIS IS....But, Even if he deals in illeagals and drug-AT LEAST HE'S NOT STINGS WITH HIS PROFIT. If his millions are legal-then even better. Alot millionaires out there just hold on to thier money and wont help ANYONE. I am curious as to how I might could get a scholarship for my child, though??? Exactly how do we go about this, or is it only for rich kids or ones he knows????
As for downtown Greeneville, the shops and business there are again for THE RICH. The little designer clothing stores are expensive. I could not shop there, and General Morgan Inn, I couldnt afford a sprite there probably. Maybe the downtown needs to look at Morristown Downtown. The do all kinds of community things on Main Street every month and have a lot of things going on. Downtown Greeneville is usually dreaded place because the busiest place down there is the courthouse.

I think you all are stupid uneducated people.Anyone who can set here and type shit about a man they know NOTHING about is a dumb ass. You all truly are. Instead of setting on your fat asses and complaining about how lame Greeneville is,then get up and go do something about it,Go complain to someone that actually matters instead of hiding behind a computer talking shit. This whole site should be removed. It's nothing but a bashing site. I don't know Scott, but all of you talking trash no nothing. And if the town is so fucking bare and dry then leave!

No one donates the kind of money he has without reaching for some kind of personal gain. Governer? Senator? What will it be for Scott in the future.? Glad he does what he does but he does it for some kind of personal gain or maybe just for the big head.
There is always a price for freeness.

I agree totally with your statement. Just to add to it, I doubt Niswonger is interested in holding a public office, but you can bet the farm he aspires to have the Governor and a a few legislators in his pocket. Its amazing how many people here thinks he does what he does because he has a big heart and loves to give. I can assure you every dollar he donates to anything has a ROI factored in.

It's not Mr. Niswonger's job to revive the economy or grow the population of Greene County. Good grief! It's ours, there are jobs available in this town if people don't think they are too good to take a job that isn't exactly paying them what they think they are worth. It's a good thing that most of the people on here don't have Mr. Niswonger's money because you would't use it for good. Obviously, you would hang on to all of it, and that's why you couldn't even conceive of the idea of donating money to improve the community without asking for something in return.

People DO NOT do things in this area to benefit others....they do it to benefit themself.

And if you think otherwise, you're either gullible, naive, or just plain stupid.

Please explain how it benefits Scott to keep the General Morgan open while it loses several hundred thousand a year. Also explain why he flew an employee of the hotel(not a high paid exec, just a working man who happens to be black) to a knee specialist and paid for his surgery which the employee couldn't afford to do. How do these things benefit Scott?
