After reading all the posts I just simply switched to 16:9 and the white lines dissapeared. I have a Toshiba CT-847 and Telus Optik TV. How easy.

Our TV just popped after seeing some horizontal lines at the top of the screen.
All we have now is a color line across the middle of our TV screen..we have sound
but no picture. Help!! Is it time to get a new style TV ours is just a TV we've
had now for over 20 years.

Nowadays I consider TVs disposable...it's far cheaper to just get a new one than to worry about fixing the 6 or 7 year old one you have..plus they keep getting better and better.

20 years?

Yeah, it's time for a new HDTV. Regular 1080p large-screen HDTVs are very affordable now days. Stay away from the really cheap brands like Emerson, Hisense, Sanyo, etc. etc. Trust me, you'll be very upset when the really cheap HDTV dies in 6 months. Do your research. Samsung, Vizio, Sony, and Sharp have plenty of affordable high-quality HDTVs.

Of course, you'll need a HD signal. I'm not sure what channels can be scanned OTA around here. You'll probably need Comcast or one of the satellite services and their HD box.
