He didn't REALLY resist arrest. The officer refused to take him to jail in a patrol car, but instead demanded that he walk from the Light and Power over to the County Jail.
Eddie is 76 and his back is not in good shape. He leaned on the officer while headed to jail and wanted to rest. The officer added on "resisting arrest" because Eddie is not in good health.

Awesome post
I would almost bet that you are a cop or a public official yourself. If it were you or your grandpa it would be a totally different story!

Neither, just think this is crazy. Most people I know would never challenge the police like this gentleman did.Once confronted by the chief if police would have sit down, left, etc as directed. The video plainly shows he did not do that. I just feel too many are bandwagon people. They may not research or think if truth but follow a lead. Even if it is bad. I wish no harm to anyone but feel some people enjoy making this a bigger real than if is as they are not going to win "Save the Nolachuckey". Then you get a few brave people who make threats, etc. I call bullcrAp. This is cowardly. I don't have an agenda. It just seems set-up by some extreme liberal thinking. The laws will protect river and people. I bet most of you play in creeks, ponds, etc that the water is worse than this will be. I have my own mind and laugh at close minded simple sponge thinking. Go beyond the story, do not be a follower of a uneducated cause, they are making you pawns.

Threatening a 76 year old veteran who served our country and was honorably discharged with "concrete time" is so repulsive and sickening! I wish that Eddie had gotten the name of this degenerate 'officer' who said this. Seeing his name and face plastered nationwide at every news site would alter his career to something he is better suited for - like janitorial service.

While I truly think you believe what you say, I personally feel that you are misguided in your thinking. The issue here is freedom of speech and open meetings. Whether or not you agree with what Mr. Overholt and the other concerned citizens had to say us irrelavant. What happened at that meeting was a violation of public trust in our government officials. ALL CITIZENS have a right to have their grievances heard by their public officials -- not just the ones who have the most money. This is an indisputable right of ALL American citizens -- one that millions of our soldiers have died to protect. If you disagree with that -- not matter what your political affiliation -- then I feel you are disrespecting the memory of our fallen soldiers!!!!!!!!
My two cents

Plus if you think this is all solely a so-called liberal agenda situation then I feel you are wrong again. People against the potential contamination of the Nolichucky Rivers crosses all political beliefs. We are very concerned and we don't NOT fully believe that our LAWS will protect our river. Look at how our LAWS have protected our right to free speech and address of public grievances. Ask the good folks down in Kingston how the LAW protected them and their property from the coal ash spill . Ask the millions of other common citizens whose lives, property and good health was destroyed by polluters who only had PROFIT on their minds.

Absolutely!! Citizens are blindly sticking their heads in the sand if they think our public officials and laws will protect them and their property. Don't get me wrong. I don't feel that every single public official is a bad person or has a personal agenda. At the same time, I am not so naive as to think we can fully trust our elected and appointed officials to always look out for our best interests. This is why our great nation has the First Amendment. It was FIRST by our nation's founders for a very important reason!

You shouldn't bring the janitorial service industry down to his level.

In my opinion the meeting was a set up for someone to do just as Mr. Overholt did. He played right into there hand. Questions..... Why was the microphones turned off? Why was all the seats taken by nitrogen employees? Why was there so many law enforcement officers there in the first place if they wasn't expecting a problem? Then Mr. Overholt and the other gentleman played right into there hand. My guess is they will use this to have closed meeting from here in out so no public will know what's going on. They will use this while crazy mess to there advantage.
Now as far as what went on I was not there and can ONLY comment in what I seen in the video.
The definition of outburst:
1. a sudden and violent release or outpouring: an outburst of tears.
2. a sudden spell of activity, energy, etc.
3. a public disturbance; riot; outbreak.

In my opinion Mr. Overholt's interruption was not a outburst but simply a question. Where Mr. Overholt made his mistake was not leaving when asked. He kept on and in about asking "What are you arresting me?" Therefore it became a outburst(see def above) due to the fact he was upset and filled with emotion. Also in the video as he is being walked to the door he bowed up on the officer for a split second and that right there was considered resisting if the officer wanted to pursue it. Me. Overholt still outside was carrying on about being arrested and I believe when he was standing by the brick wall is when he scraped his arm.
In my opinion at that point when he was told he was arrested they should of had another officer come with a car and escort Mr. Overholt to the jail in a cruiser. That was a terrible mistake on the officers fault. He set himself up for the liability of all that is being said about him resting and resisting etc... That is all hearsay because we didn't see it on film and we were not there.
As far as the way the officer had his hand and escorted him with his hand bent... Well that is the way they are trained so if that's an issue then Walter state and whoever puts that in there training should be in trouble.(Watch cops and see how often this move is used)

I think the mayor should be immediately removed from office for his very unprofessional way of handling this situation! I also think that whatever they decided at this meeting should be made null and void and another "OPEN PUBLIC MEETING WITH QUESTIONS"
Should be held by professionals and with the public acting the way they should as well. Then use that meeting as the next step in the way to proceed with USN.

This is the heart of the problem. We have corrupt politicians who colluded with a crooked company to take a big sh!t in our county and they run into some resistance. That's what this is all about; shutting down the opposition.

. Wrong is wrong. I don't care how well you try to defend it. I think Alan Broyles was wrong at that meeting. No one can convince me otherwise. Open meetings are the law. End of story. This is why Eddie Overholt and everyone else were upset.

I'm also upset that they arrested him rather than just escorting him out of the building. I'm upset the microphones were not turned on. I'm upset that they packed all the chairs with USN employees.

What were they trying to pull? They must think most people here are stupid, but then again, so few are actually up in arms about this. Most live in apathy.

I don't think you know everyone in Greene County. So I believe you need to keep your stupid comments to yourself. You sound like Overholt, don't know when to keep your mouth shut and your opinions to yourself.
