Can a man go to jail for not paying his child support?

ok i did nowhere in my post say a parent shouldnt have to pay child support..was just pointing out that there are some fathers in the same shoes as those single mothers. And YES!! if some1 has a chile they need to take responsability. But that responsability is taking care of the children..not the deadbeat mothers living off of the CS and wellfare.I'm 22 years old and too see all these "ADULTS" act like this discusses me. I have ben payin CS for my son as of 2007(Even though he lived with me and was taking very well care of). And i got laid off back in August and i now risk the chance of going to jail on account of not paying child support. There is a difference in a "Loving" father and a hardworkin man who is LAID OFF!!! Rather than a person denying any claim or responsability to there children just to TRY to not have to pay CS. I KNOW i have a beautiful son and i honestly cant pay cs right now...Should i be jailed? I have been searching for a job since the day after i lost my last job. As i previously stated..a man down on his luck isnt a terrible good for nothing father!!Jobs are scarce and by the way the election went i dont see it getting any better for quite a while. What sorry candidates we had to choose from this year right? But just saying to please dont talk down on men not paying cs until u know there story and what there really going through. I know its my responsability and i do not mind it at all. Soon as i catch a break ill start payin like nothing had ever happened..Thanks to my ex good job at least i know my Income Tax check will pay up my back pay lol

It is absolutely ludicrous that someone (loosely, when has a woman gone to jail for not paying) would be sent to jail for not being able to pay legitimately.. The system favors the mother whether she custodial or not. When I custody she didn't work, and paid (when she wanted to) the minimum. If I had got any level of support I would still have custody... But now that I'm not custodial I get to pay my 25 percent, and health care and don't forget arrears which have made it impossible for me to maintain residence and transportation to see them(good luck getting her to bring them) with 2 jobs. And she's suing for more money... But I'm the deadbeat. The system can kiss my ass, and if they put me in jail, I'll lose my job so how am I gonna pay then? How am I ever going to pay? It's no wonder why fathers walk away who would want to put up with this, and it ain't never going to end.

Not only can you be put in jail but no bond will be granted. You will be STUCK there until every single penny is paid back! I know this for a FACT! I know 2 ppl sittin in GC Hilton atm for exactly that reason

ive been to child support 5times and the dead beat still hasnt went to jail an want pay he had to get a layer appointed to him now so we go back next month so idk what will happen now prob just him still getting it free in life

That decision is in your hands. Make it known to the DA that you want him to go to jail, and that will change things. It is all up to you.

If the father lives in Florida and the child lives in new Mexico, can the father go to jail for not paying child support. He has been giving her money through money order not through child support because she said it would count, but i dont think it does.
