Why is it that every time I try to do business in Greeneville I can't? I get off work before 5 and run like a dog to get my errands done, but lo and behold the business owner and county office has decided to lock up and go home early. I wonder:

A. Are they all just so rich that they don't need the money?
B. Should I have taken the whole day off to make a 15 minute stop?
C. Are business owners in Greeneville just lazy?

I would bet A is not true. B is true for a lot of good ol' boys and C is the correct answer. I hear all this whining about Greeneville not being what it used to be and then I try to shop local and support the town. I have come to understand why most people just go out of town to spend their money.

Well, they are off work at the same time as you. Are you lazy?

Not being mean, but I think this comes with the luxury of 1st shift. Have a nice screwed up 2nd or 3rd shift schedule and you will have plenty of time to run errands.

Apparently I did not make my post clear. The posted hours on these business are until 5 p.m. or sometimes 6 p.m. and they just decide to close up... And...every shift is equal. First shift is not a luxury. Other shifts can run their errands before they come to work. Trust me, I have worked all three.

I started going anywhere else but Greeneville for the things I need. As far as government, mail it in or Internet. Never have to deal with the dumbazzes. Go to grocery store in Kinsport. Buy cars, lumber, home supplies in Johnson city, Jonesboro, or Kingsport. If the sheet heads in Greeneville do not respect me as a consumer, then screw em. If enough people do this, then they'll shut their doors, and good riddance to bad management.

If you want to run a business, open your own. I don't tell anyone how to run their business.

I love it when they close up for lunch and put a sign up, "be back at 1pm", you make a second trip at 2pm and they are still closed. That is the rudiest thing a business owner can do, is waste a potential customers time.

Wow, I guess people like you are why sucky Greeneville businesses keep barely getting by. And people like me, who work for a living, have to drive an hour to do business.

Here is a perfect example of why you should go elsewhere. No respect for anyone, especially those that might want to shop at "YOUR" business. Know what? You can take "YOUR BUSINESS" and shove it. Just tell me what it is, and I'll never go there.

I don't have a business. I just don't tell someone how to run their's. It is their business to do as they please, as long as they remain in business. If you don't like their hours, go to Walmart. They are open 24/7.

A lot of small independently owned businesses can't afford the cost of having extra personnel to cover for them, if they have a necessary errand to run , such as picking up a car at a facility that closes at 5. The owners of most retail establishments work 6 days a week, and probably feel entitled to go home early occasionally if their child has a football game or whatever.

I am not in their shoes, so I try not to judge too harshly. Start earlier or go somewhere else.

Then what's the point of living here? Move, Greeneville does not need you.

Working Man, there is no point trying to reason with most of those dedicated the Greeneville Golden Standard when it comes to doing business as usual.
The lack of work ethic is common to second and third generation business owners and factory/local workers alike. The former can't seem to stay at their business, but somehow remain in business; the latter can't seem to stay at work because they have to leave every day to do their personal business, but somehow they stay employed.
I have come to think that Greeneville is the birthplace of this phenomenon, as I have never encountered it anywhere else. If it is any consolation, it drives me crazy, too.

What we need are some of these politicians, crummy business owners/philanthropists to move before we're giving everything we make in taxes to support all this unnecessary non sense because some want to make Greeneville some ginger bread tourist/retirement Mecca.

I'm going to open a second hand junk store, that way I can stay up all night posting on topix and maybe drag in and open at noon, keep it open until it's time for happy hour around 3 or 4....A business should suit my needs not the customers! Ahh, I love Greeneville!

I know what ever we do, it'll work out perfectly because we are amazing just the way we are!
