The mistakes of other socialist countries such as Norway, Denmark, and Sweden who consistently are listed as having the highest standard of living in the world?<quoted text>... but from mistakes made by other countries as well. We are slipping into socialism as sure as I am sitting here and typing and I, as an American, do not "embrace" that change because I know from reading about other countries that we will most assuredly be "swept" away from all we hold dear in this country.
The prosperity of these countries notwithstanding, the United States was more "socialist" in the 1950's when the top marginal tax rate was 90%! The top capital gains tax rate in the 1950s and 1960s was 25%, 35% in the 1970s.
Our top tax rate is now 35% and capital gains stands at 15%.
Ironically, no one is asking to go back to the "socialism" of the 1950's and hike top tax rates to 90%.
