He was convicted of leaving the scene of an accident and given a 2 month sentence, which was suspended. The Kopechne family probably got a nice settlement. My favorite is Ted "Lifeguard" Kennedy.

More Republicans at the very top with problems---Richard Nixon was guilty of covering up a break-in. Had he not resigned, he would have been impeached and have been convicted to become the only president in history to be removed from office. He knew that removal from office was inevitable so he tucked tail and ran.
Just prior to Nixon resigning, Nixon's VP Spiro Agnew becomes the first U.S. vice president to resign in disgrace. Agnew pleaded no contest to a charge of federal income tax evasion in exchange for the dropping of charges of political corruption. He was subsequently fined $10,000, sentenced to three years probation, and disbarred by the Maryland court of appeals.
Historians generally concede that the two most corrupt Presidental administrations in history were under Republicans Grant and Harding.

I almost forgot W. Bush. Add him to the list with Republicans Grant, Harding, and Nixon. You can check out the story of these four infamous Republicans at the following link---
