Why is WGHS the only school that does not have a school zone on the by pass? I take my kids to school & every morning people are speeding down the by pass right where the kids have to cross in order to get to school. They have a school zone on the little back road the school is on but, the danger is on the by pass.

Derp you are an idiot. CDHS is also far enough back but they have to obey a 20 mph limit. I agree with Concerned Parent. If CDHS has it why not WGHS too?

Is there a turn lane at the new Chuckey Doak high school entrance? I'm thinking there isn't. Perhaps that could be why.

From what I have seen, most of the crazy drivers ARE the students on their way to West Greene.....
I agree with earlier statement, cut the cord.

Turn lane yes they still have to go across two lanes of speeding traffic you have to think these are kids just learning to drive there is a turn lane for tusculum view and those are grade schoolers who dont drive yet they have a 20 mph zone

Even more reason to have a low speed limit. You have young inexperienced drivers & also speeding 3rd shift adult drivers.

Maybe because there is not a direct entrance to West greene from the by pass like there is to cdms???? That's the only reason I could think of.
think about it

CDHS or at least now CDMS fronts the 11-E and has a direct entrance off of the 11-E. Where as WGHS does neither.

Good grief the point is whether there is a direct entrance or not the speed at which the traffic is going is dangerous. The kids are having to get across a very busy two lanes. There needs to be a 20 mph zone like all the other schools have. Traffic is traveling at 60+ mph. A state trooper sits on the rd. in front of the school instead of on the bypass where everyone is speeding.

a school zone speed limit on the bypass in that area would likely result in one of two scenarios: it will be ignored, or it will cause heavier traffic on an already crowded commute. I drive by WG every day on my way to school at Greeneville. What need is there for a school speed limit on a major highway that doesn't even have an entrance to the school on it? A school speed limit on the bypass in that area would be a waste of money and law enforcement officers' time (to make sure it is obeyed) which could be used for more pressing and vital matters. It would be very comparable to the new red lights on the bypass in Greeneville. I've lived in Greeneville my entire life and I never once remember seeing a really bad wreck at that intersection, but since the new lights went up, there have been at least two. They couldn't have picked a worse place for them, as they're too close together and the hill blocks the view of the next light.

You are probably one of the idiots speeding to Greeneville. I guess when a kid is killed it will be worth putting a police officer and a speed reduction.

Do you not have anything better to be "concerned" about? I mean seriously why cause an issue where there is none?

I have plenty to be worried about with this issue. I have seen several near misses with people trying to get across at this particular crossing. I certainly don't need you telling where to place my concern.

I didn't "state" an opinion. I asked a question. You are the one being confrontational. I'm just curious if any other WG parent worries about the same. I have been driving 23 yrs. & I feel it is dangerous for me to cross there especially in the morning. A child just starting to drive would surely be nervous. Today, for example, I was behind a female student, cars were racing by & it took the poor girl forever to pull out. I'm sure because she was scared.

There is always going to be the people that just shoot across the bypass in front of oncoming cars that are going 70 and there are always gonna be people who sit there for 30 min waiting to cross it. Both adults and teenagers do that. What they need to fix is the first turning lane to go to the school. At 7:45 when everyone is running late to get to school, the damn hill going towards DTR is one lane cause the cars are backed up into the bypass. They'll probably never fix it but I don't care cause I've become a crafty driver in that area over the past few years. Just stating maybe there are more areas of concern than just a flashing light to reduce speed.

I agree, sitting on the edge of the road because the turning lane is backed is pretty scary too. It's a screwed up turning lane all the way around. I don't how they can fix these 2 problems but, I think they should atleast try.
