Looking for a great summer getaway, beyond the lake please. Would like to hear where you like to go and why you like it.

Outer Banks, NC. But SOUTH of the tourist hordes at Kitty Hawk and Nags Head. Cheaper accomodations, great seafood. Beaches are quiet and relatively few people. Attractions, for adults and kids, a short drive away.

Addendum: those southern outer banks beaches are NOT attended by lifeguards, only occasional beach patrols.

Thanks for the tip. I have never been to Myrtle Beach. Everyone here seems to love it, but I dislike crowds of people. I do love the beach. Sounds like the Outer Banks beaches are more my speed.

Outer Banks are great for families. Been going there since the 80's.

Not for a family vacation. It's a dirty, stinking, suffocatingly humid, crime-ridden sh!thole.

I haven't been post-Katrina, but New Orleans is the craziest and most fun town I've been too.

Didn't say whether "he" or "she" either.

He/she did say they wanted to avoid crowds of people, so that alone would rule out N.O.

In order to avoid crowds of people during prime vacation months, you have to go somewhere that nobody wants to visit.
