Howdy Doo my fellow fecal friends. Christmas is right around the corner! What traditions do you and your family partake in? Hide the pickle? Open a present on Christmas Eve? Drink egg nog until you barf.

One tradition my family did as a kid that I was looking forward to sharing with my kids was driving around looking at houses. We would pile in the car and cruise neighborhoods looking at decorations and lights. I took my two and my neighbors two out tonight and it was a huge disappointment. We drove the park and then cruised several neighborhoods and hardly saw any houses decorated. Do people just not decorate like they used to? I remember the Brentwood neighborhood being awesome back in the day. We saw about 3 houses tonight. Big let down.

My parents use to take me and my sisters out to look at the lights also. It seems like people don't get into it as much. I still see some people that go all out and decorate. I plan on it next year. This year was my first year putting up a Christmas tree. My daughter is only two months old so there isn't much we can do this year But, I plan on making some family traditions next year.

Educated guesses on the lack of outdoor lighting: 1. old age and infirmity; 2. vandalism and theft: 3. cost of the decorations; 4. the high electric bill; 5. cheaper to go to Hardin Park or Bristol Motor Speedway each year.

Nobody is complaining. We are just saying things are not like they use to be. I do plan on putting lights up next year.

1. Maybe. 2. Maybe a few houses getting vandalized but not on a scale that affects all of Greeneville. 3. And 4. Is probably the reason. 5. Has nothing to do with the tradition of hunting for Christmas lights.

When I was a kid my mom would let us open one present on Christmas Eve. We would also watch all the Christmas classics. We never did decorate but we did go Christmas light hunting.

We used to open one gift on Christmas Eve, too. Also, when I was a kid, I would sleep by the Christmas tree from the time we put it up b/c I loved the lighting, except on Christmas Eve, of course, b/c Santa couldn't come if I was sleeping in the family room...lol!!! ;)

We did put up our own lights. I hope some family drives by and looks at them. I'm not complaining. I just really enjoyed it as a kid and was hoping to experience it with my kids. I'm not talking about going Clark W on it just a strand or two around the house.
