We didn't arrest that man nor did we call for it. Our county will be known for standing up for our neighbors. How is that a bad thing?

Why do the headlines read "76 year old veteran arrested" when the headlines should actually read "Liberal loony toon intentionally causes public disturbance at town meeting"?
The only reason this guy Overholt was at the meeting in the first place was to instigate and subvert legitimate discussion involving the pipeline development project.
Overholt is one of these self-entitled 99 percent bleeding heart Liberal fanatics who worships Obama and global warming. Nevermind the fact that this pipe development project will create lots of jobs and economic activity, we can't build a pipe because of CLIMATE CHANGE.
GEEEZ!!!
And secondly, I DO THINK he should be jailed. Because town administrative meetings are a serious business. Just because you are a Liberal and want to push your ideas on everyone else OVERHOLT, you can't just jump up in the middle of a meeting and start interrupting people simply because the conversation isn't going your way.
STFU and sit down!

This story made the Huffington Post and Glenn Beck's The Blaze. It was met with outrage by both the Right and the Left.

So, yeah..., what Lol said,---- STFU and sit down.

... and Jebus Fracking Crisp, this isn't about Global Warming, Numbnuts. It is about clean water. If you had actually read the damn story, you would have maybe taken note that this isn't an oil pipeline.

This particular pipeline goes a very short distance taking clean water from Point A, bringing it into a plant, and dumping newly polluted water into Point B. This isn't going to create jobs, you dolt. The jobs already exist that can lay a few hundred feet of pipe.

What it DOES create is unclean drinking water for all counties downstream. Mr. Overholt, who simply asked the stooge of a county mayor to "speak up so others could hear," lives down river in Cocke County... and I daresay he would speak for both himself and his neighbors that he would rather not be drinking ammonia.

A few things to think over--- I would be glad to p*ss in your Cheerios every morning and then come up with an Obama/Global Warning defense when you complained. Also...again,

STFU and SIT DOWN.

Russian applause especially gratifying. The peasants are laughing, the serfs understand tears of laughter, but do the authorities? Comic grief, good grief.

If that isn't ironic... a Russian news site displaying the heavy hand of government smacking down a free citizen who did nothing wrong!

People in East Tennessee often laugh at Greeneville but now we have the entire planet laughing at us!

Great job Mayor Broyles you are certainly leaving a shining legacy!

The Russian Times story seemed well written to me, neutral really, one of the better news bulletins on offer. The reporter is reporting, not laughing. There may be laughter among readers, but that is their affair and what can you expect, given the nightmares and monsters of Russian history. I could quibble and carp about details, but I won't. This is perhaps one of those rare times when history or its gods seem to know a joke and impart a mystery. Consider the scene....the Love Board Room, Light and Power. It shimmers with a kind of Pale Fire, has a tint of religion, and features the abrupt fate of two outcast men. Mr Broyles (cooking and hot weather echo in his name) acts the part of an irate schoolmaster, though he is a government official in a provincial town, once home to a 19th century American president during a brutal era. The police are hamfisted, the spectators are revolted. A strange thread (haven't we all seen or known this story before, somewhere else, in another form) runs through the actors and their parts, by chance.

Congratulations to all those who sent these videos and stories nationwide!! YOU made our town look stupid. Do you think they're really going to come to this town's rescue over this? To fix a problem, you look inside, not outside. They couldn't give a flying flip over what happens here. It's a short story to read (view), comment on, and MOVE ON. So, thank you again for making our small town look like a bunch of ignorant and backwoods people, who can't take care of their own issues and instead complain, whine, and cry!! Sadly, I wonder how many people truly knew what this public hearing was about in the first place, think about it!!!!!

You are trying to blame the people that RECORDED an improper arrest for the problem? That is like blaming the newspaper for the murders they report.
You are a complete idiot and you should go live in a cave away from civilized people. You are also a prime example of what's wrong with Greeneville!
Never did I once say that it shouldn't have been recorded. But, the same people who are yelling that "they" are making us look bad are the same ones sending the videos nationwide. How does that help? We have to take care of our own problems in this county. I don't think the man should have been ordered to be arrested. And as far as your insults... Why don't you go put on your big boy pants before you start criticizing!!

Actually, Anton, it's Russia Today (at least that's how they started life), not Russian Times. Now known as RT. I do like your Pale Fire observation, and so do a couple of other writers I know. It's all quite a bolt from the blue, isn't it? Davy Crockett, the It'll Do Motel (which I should have kept in the Lolita manuscript), the Severe (sic) founding family, the lost Indian(American Indians) languages. Ornaments of accidents and possibilities to the max. More forests of signs than Dada ever dreamed of. So, Mary says to tell me to tell you that you get an A, which we will both (on Hawthorne's advice) add to RT and get Art. Aspects of Tennessee do remind me of Russia, but no one plays chess in Tennessee, I hear. Is the Fallout shelter sign (black and yellow) still posted at the post office? Are little children still hovering beneath their desks in fear, during drills? Is the Sun still chattering cheerfully away, away. Vera and numerous three sisters send their best, as do the Vanessas.
With love, yer buddy V

Sometimes it takes a large spotlight to shine light in all of the dark places! This is a situation that should have been exposed. If the powers that be had been more forth coming in the first place then this whole shameful mess could have been avoided!!
