So you go in there in this dimly lit building that reminds you of the anteroom to Hell or something.
There's always a line of sad miserable people waiting, shuffling a little bit, and waiting some more. Cobwebs are often attached to them. It makes you wonder if any waited so long they became mummified.
You look at the Postal Workers and they have this look of dull hate in their eyes as if they are thinking "How DARE you come in here and disturb us with your postal needs! GET OUT!"
Then you pay outrageous prices for stamps and yet you still hear how the Postal Service is broke and needs more money. Maybe some brainiac will figure out how to upgrade them to the twenty-first century one day.
You should venture into the Chuckey post office. Kills them to have to speak to you. But hey I think they're doing a little better, they only lost 1.9 Billion last quarter.

I think less than 50 cents to send a envelope anywhere in the US is pretty cheap

Well I agree that as a whole the post office is a really good deal. I was commenting about the unfriendly nature of the postal employees at the Chuckey office. I do walk in with a smile and a 'how ya doing today' but they just grunt and look at you like you have flames coming out of your ears. I actually know a few postal employees and they are nothing like that so I know that it is not systemic.

Well I don't think showing them 'my' particular skin would curry any favors with me. Unless of course they're attracted to middle aged men. But what the hell I am quite a looker if I do say so myself. Not to mention intelligent, clever, witty, and of course.....modest.

I don't know the answers but it looks like Donahoe is not earning his 245,000 dollar salary. He sure does have a boner though about getting rid of Saturday delivery. I don't see how such a small change would help but I bet the postal employees wouldn't mind the weekends off. I do know that hundreds of thousands of postal employees work hard to get the mail delivered and truly care about their jobs and the people they work for. It's a shame that the Federal Government can't get off their collective behinds and come up with a solution to the Postal Service problems.

Guess you have done your homework doc. That old Donahoe sure didn't care about the deficit when he took his 300 k boner did he?hehe If the weekends off was to be put in it sure would get rid of a lot of them silly folks ridin' around and listenen to the radio I bet. Sure wish they would listen to that old Injun' sayin' first about there being too many chiefs an not enuf injuns. What you think about that doc?

I'm curious about something concerning post offices across the country.

How badly would it hurt to shut them down for business on Saturdays?

How badly would it hurt the rural families that depend on that service everyday for their mail, their medicine and sometimes the only contact they have with civilization all week? Hmmm? What is the dollar amount you can place upon that? So much waste in so many other areas and no one will listen to the people who have bright innovative ideas on how to change the postal service due to the commissions and regulations as put forth by the Postal Commission and Congress.

I'm not trying to be a smartazz, but really .. why is one day going to make a difference? They can get all their important mail M-F. What bright innovative ideas has anyone come up with? I live in a very rural area there is one post office 10 miles from the next .. why not combine them into one? I think the postal offices are robbing us every chance they get.

Consolidation is ONE of the ideas put forth and has not been enacted on quick enough..as with every gov't.-controlled agency the wheels of change turn very slowly.

This thread brings to mind a lady at the drive-through at McBarfles on the By-pass. That lady always has a smile on her face and acts like she enjoys her job. Maybe she needs to go work at a post office.
