The Scare Factor

Just you an Ethan alone in a house for one night, Oh and he has a loaded gun.

If you can sleep the whole night and still alive the next morning, you win.

Next episode your children and Ethan alone in the house with the loaded gun. Think you could sleep that night also?

Another cold blooded murderer is off the streets and we are all a little safer. Case closed. End of discussion.

Ethan was not on the streets, he was in his house, his family's house, when the murder was committed. We are all a little safer? You were frightened by or threatened by Ethan? Ethan was a terrorist, maybe. Conversation about a family's tragedy and a young man's guilty verdict does not stop because you say it stops.

First let me say I do not condone murder & it's so sad he didn't have anyone he could trust & turn to before he reached his breaking point.
Unless you've been the victim of abuse you'll never understand the hell that kid was going through. Most who are really being abused don't tell out of fear & shame. To make the situation more difficult his dad was a cop. They'll put a parent in jail for hurting their child physically but mental abuse is much easier for the parent to hide & way more damaging to the child. A bruise will heal but when you screw with someone's mind, especially a child, that lasts a lifetime. Let me say it again, I don't think murder was the right choice but he apparently felt he was in a situation that he didn't know another way out of & couldn't take it anymore. The fact he shot him from behind & sleeping just proves he was how terrified he was of his "dad". If he was planning the murder & was an evil kid he would have done it when he was awake & face to face. The human mind has a fight or flight survival sense & I guess he felt like he had no other option. I think it's awful he was a prisoner by his dad & now he'll be one the rest of his life. The only justice I see in this whole tragic situation is Roger is now paying for what he did to his son & wife. Burn....

Exactly how was it proven that this was "pre-meditated" anyway? Hiding the gun after the fact and ransacking the house after the does NOT show pre-meditation- it shows he was trying to hide what happened after the fact. If he had been thinking this through in a premeditated manner, wouldn't there be a plan? I can see a manslaughter charge, but not first degree....

I was locked up with ETHAN for a few months he did almost two years and was in solitary condiment when he first came in. I thought he was a cool kid he did have a temper but I never saw it and he didn't talk to me about what happened but he did to some of his cellies and he said he was abused by his dad mentally and physically and his dad blamed him for his mothers death or something but where I think he has a problem is he threw the gun in the pond at Hardin park and made it look like a robbery BUT just cause Roger self was a cop doesn't mean he didn't abuse his son and if he did for a long period of time then he.got what was coming to him!!

What I would like to know if Roger were not a cop would the boy of gotten that much time. Seems to me a man got beat to death and it was cut and dry and only got 10 years @ 30 percent. My my murder is murder whether it be with a gun or your hands. The justice system is screwed up. Not saying the boy needed to walk but seems some get special treatment.

Well, he picked up the gun, walked it into the room, aimed it, fired, all while his dad slept.

And you wonder about premeditation?

He should do some time but I mean the sentence he received was a little extreme. I thought 15 years would have been pretty reasonable.

Everyday we continue to pray for Ethan. The inequity of his sentence is startling. Members of the Manson family were paroled after 30 years and still pledged allegiance to Charles.

After reading about this case, I also wonder why the mother died, it states she was found dead in an unoccupied hospital room. Her husband was known by her fellow nurses to be aggressive, domineering with her, there was testimony about that. So if they saw that behavior where she worked, there's no telling what went on in private. She was only 44, at work, and her husband showed up there often. Does anyone know what she died from? Another point to be made is that many abused people are too embarrassed to report it, the nurses testified she was embarrassed by his behavior when he caught her working in the er, which he had forbade due to his not wanting her around the emt guys. She left that night and didn't come back. Sounds like abuse to me. I also question why he was put on dispatch.
It's a very sad, tragic story which has more questions then answers.

Was a plea offered to Ethan Self? If so, does anyone remember what it was? IMO, He would of been better off with a different attorney.
