Just to say Greene County School Bus Drivers Do Not Make $18.00 dollars a hour nor do the make $20.000 a year. Not even if you have been driving 35 years. The older you get the harder it is to find summer work.I have a friend who drives for the county. Also they don't have the choice to have money taken out so they get paid in the summer.

I make a little over 30k per year. I train other drivers and take as many trips as I can get.$126.00 per day.....$18.00 per hour for training and trips. I also sell insurance on the side only when someone pokes me with a stick. Stretch your paycheck out for the whole year and lay on the beach in the summer. It helps when your wife makes more money than you do. I would not trade my gravy train job for one that I can think of. Work to live don't live to work.

It's already been stated here that bus drivers do NOT get paid when they aren't working. ONE person said they thought they should and you jump to a conclusion. School bus drivers are underpaid IMO.
So what about the bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers, etc. that put in their 30 years, do they not deserve a "loyalty bonus" also? What is the difference? Do we not put the safety of our children in the bus drivers hands daily? Where do you draw the line?
How many people you know that retire from a private-sector job that get a "loyalty bonus"?

I was thinking about driving a school bus for Greene County. Then I was told Bus Drivers get no pay for the summer months they are out.Well I was told by a driver that you know you will be driving when school starts back (that is if you do your job).So tell me how do these drivers pay their bills, buy food,go to the doctor or so on if they don't get paid. They said they can't draw unemployment because they are considered part time? But drivers report back to school the first day of school driving the bus.So this is very unfair .Could you go all summer without pay? These people need to be have pay year around.I WILL NOT DRIVE WHERE I DON'T GET PAID YEAR AROUND . DRIVING A SCHOOL BUS IS A VERY HARD JOB ! God Bless You Drivers
looks as if you are not going to drive. no one asked you to apply.

My husband drives a school bus down here in Florida. He doesn't get paid for the summer either unless he drives summer school. Why would you get paid for not working? It is a hard job but so are a lot of other jobs and they don't get paid unless they work either. I work also so when summer came around his first yr.driving and he didn't work, we struggled on one paycheck. The solution we have found for the whole him not getting paid during the summer thing was for him to get a summer job and guess what... it worked, he gets a paycheck! Plus after that whole fiasco we decided to get serious about planning and budgeting or money, it really does help.

My mother in law works for the school cafeteria here in Jefferson City, and she gets paid during the summer she still has the option to work in the summer but that is just for extra income.

I drive for the city of Greeneville. We do get paid year round but only because we choose to have money held back during the school year in order to receive a paycheck in June and July. It IS a very hard job but also very rewarding. You HAVE to love this job in order to do it well. And NO...we do NOT make 18.00 per hour. Drivers now are hired in at 11.05 per hour.

B*** S***! Teachers are paid a yearly SALARY! They can choose to be paid monthly or school year. They make the same amount of money. So, yes, they DO get paid. They choose how they receive it.
Bus drivers, cafeteria workers and custodians are paid by the hour NOT SALARY.
Les HENRY drove a school bus for a long time for greene county and he chose to be paid all year,at first it was only during school, they devide it by 12 it is by the hour, but they can choose how to get paid,no school bus driver makes 30,000 a year, les made 12 dollars an hour,20 hours a week, you do the math,30,000 a year, not!!!!

when you don't work and you get paid, it's called welfare.
I beg to differ. When someone has an occupation that has periods of time off is not the employees fault.
I worked full time for 20 years before I lost my job and now I drive a school bus.
I paid into unemployment insurance all of those years.
It's my money. It's not a handout.
The losers with 5 kids and no job are the welfare cases.
Don't get the two confused.

I beg to differ. I drew unemployment during the summer when I drove in Sullivan county. Drivers simply need to go apply.

Also, city drivers get paid during the summer because they hold back 20 hours a month during school so they get paid during summer.

Correct, but they can still draw unemployment because what they are getting paid for in June and July is money ALREADY earned.
