I was thinking about driving a school bus for Greene County. Then I was told Bus Drivers get no pay for the summer months they are out.Well I was told by a driver that you know you will be driving when school starts back (that is if you do your job).So tell me how do these drivers pay their bills, buy food,go to the doctor or so on if they don't get paid. They said they can't draw unemployment because they are considered part time? But drivers report back to school the first day of school driving the bus.So this is very unfair .Could you go all summer without pay? These people need to be have pay year around.I WILL NOT DRIVE WHERE I DON'T GET PAID YEAR AROUND . DRIVING A SCHOOL BUS IS A VERY HARD JOB ! God Bless You Drivers

My wife's is a cafeteria worker she don't get paid in the summer either. She gets no pay for christmas break or spring break,Why should you get paid if you don't work?Better look for some other type of employment.

Teachers don't get paid in the summer either, FYI. Most just have money taken out each month to fund summer "checks".

A second job. Either part time or full time. If you are certified to drive a bus, try to get on with Greene Coach or someplace like that. Or drive over the road for a transportation company. Start your own business and work it during your down time. The sky is the limit ....

Hello let me say driving a school bus is a challange.I have driven for 21 years .You have to have respect for your students and you get respect. The pay is better than when I first started.Yes its true no summer pay.But we hope to get the option to do a summer fund. Most drivers put money aside for the summer.

I make a little over 30k per year. I train other drivers and take as many trips as I can get. $126.00 per day.....$18.00 per hour for training and trips. I also sell insurance on the side only when someone pokes me with a stick. Stretch your paycheck out for the whole year and lay on the beach in the summer. It helps when your wife makes more money than you do. I would not trade my gravy train job for one that I can think of. Work to live don't live to work.

Bus drivers must be very special indeed. Glad to hear they get paid as much as they do. That would be so stressfull. I sure couldnt handle it.

So let so let me get this right. You all complain because teachers get a loyalty bonus. But it is OK to pay bus drivers when they aren't working? Use to be a lot of drivers were farmers. Now alot are Moms who don't work elsewhere and want to add a little income to the family. A bunch are retirees. All school employees get at least part of their health insurance paid.

B*** S***! Teachers are paid a yearly SALARY! They can choose to be paid monthly or school year. They make the same amount of money. So, yes, they DO get paid. They choose how they receive it.

Bus drivers, cafeteria workers and custodians are paid by the hour NOT SALARY.

It's already been stated here that bus drivers do NOT get paid when they aren't working. ONE person said they thought they should and you jump to a conclusion. School bus drivers are underpaid IMO.

So what about the bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers, etc. that put in their 30 years, do they not deserve a "loyalty bonus" also? What is the difference? Do we not put the safety of our children in the bus drivers hands daily? Where do you draw the line?

How many people you know that retire from a private-sector job that get a "loyalty bonus"?
