WHO NOT TO TAKE A CHECK FROM?

We have learned over the course of 15 years that you can't accept a check from anyone. We now have a credit card machine. They can use credit, debit or cash. If they have a checkbook more than likely they have a bank card. I know that probably sounds harsh, but you wouldn't believe the people that write checks on closed accounts. If they don't have a bank card and they want to by something then they have to go to the bank and get money. You wouldn't believe how many people say let me go to the bank and never come back. They had every intention of writing a bad check to begin with. Somebody always wants something for nothing.

I worked at a place in town for a while and they had some chic write a bad check and came back in and paid for that check w another bad check. After the 3rd check bounced they just forgot about it.I would have insisted on cash after the 1st one.

I worked at a another place in a small community in the county and we had a deadbeat list that we would put people on that wrote a bad check or didnt pay at all.It didnt take long for the word to get around the community and people would stop by and pay to get their name off the board.Never underestimate the power of the front porch crowd at the local country store.

ok i do understand you logic to a point, my brother just took a bunch of people for money writing bad checks and is going to be on probation for the next twenty years or until he pays them off. so i get there are people out there who will write a bad check and know they are. I also know people have over draft at most banks that allow them to write a check and pay an extra fee to have it cashed. and some banks like ccu where i bank close earlier than the rest and are not open on weekends. i do have a bank card but it is not accepted every where case in point if i want anything from the dollar tree i have to write a check or pay cash and i do not always have cash. invest in the scan system where it runs the check through like a credit card. we have a check book and a debit card. my husband keeps the debit card and i keep the check book. I pay most of my bills this way and he pays for gas and food that he needs while at work with the card. If i go into a store to just look around and i find something i WANT but do not NEED and i go to pay for it and they do not take a check i probably will not waste my time or gas going back the the bank (if it is open) and get money out just to come all the way back just to pay you for an item i do not need. so while i understand your efforts to protect yourself as a buiness understand that you are not only sending the people away that would write a bad check but those who would write a good one as well. The scan system is the only way that you can ensure that someone is not ripping you off. i am sorry for your bad experiance

i had never heard of anyone allowing someone to pay off a bad check with another check that is insane. most want cash or money order i dont even think they will take credit cards. every where i have worked has been this way. i carry a prepaid credit card now for small items that i want through out the week, but still use my check book for big item and bills. i like the idea of a list maybe then the rest of us wouldnt have to pay for the dead beats who give check writing a bad name

I own a local business, and you would not believe the people that write worthless checks! It's just a shame that anyone should have to worry about this! All these people would be irate if they did a job, expecting to get paid, and they were paid with a bad check. Not that anyone cares, but that is exactly what happens to us, when someone writes a bad check. I have several that I still haven't been able to collect on and the amounts aren't much so it would cost me more than they're worth to take these people to court. It's just the principle of it. And beware everyone, if they make the statement "I would never write a bad check" or "You cab trust me, my checks are good" 10 to 1 says it WILL bounce!

When my wife passed away we had 3 checking accounts. We had one in both our names and one each. If I had wrote a check and signed it my name myself on mine it would have come back forged, I’m sure. So when she passed away I went and canceled all of them. I bought me a safe and put my money in it. If the money is not in the safe then I don’t need it.

I am sorry that you have to go through all of that, and i am sorry for every single business that my brother and his girl friend wrote checks to. It didnt used to be theis way. when i first got out of school things were not like this, i mean you heard about bad checks but it wasnt something that happened all the time. i know some places that will not take a check from you unless it it in the 5000 i have had the same checking account since i was 18. and i still pay my bills with a check but i have started using a direct deposit on a prepaid credit card for spending money, it takes so much less effort. i love it, but a lot of places wont take it either. Good luck with your business and i hope you recover those checks you still have outstanding. I used to sell avon and a girl wrote me a bad check the bank told me i could call up there as many times as i wanted and try to run the check agian. that could be because we banked at the same bank but have you tried to do that?
