Another Jones supporter making wild claims. If Pat is running, he will have my vote. I do feel Steve has become a bit lazy on the job and he's been in the position for a long time. I am one that believes in term limits for elected positions, so it is time for new ideas.
I don't know Jones either. Hell I also don't know Burns. lol

A lot of times there is truth in those rumors, they've just got blowed out of proportion.

<quoted text>The truth is that when a Sheriff in a small county like Greene stays in office for several years, he has pissed off hundreds, if not thousands, of people by simply doing his job, arresting people who break the law. The criminal has friends and many extended family members if the family has lived here for a few generations.
In Burns' particular case, there is also bad blood going back several years, with the previous Sheriff, who is now a Deputy. Burns has beaten him in 2 different elections , after losing to him the first time he ran. The previous Sheriff comes from the south side of Greene Co. and has several supporters who constantly bash Burns, ans start rumors, because they want the former Sheriff back in. Burns arrested one of the former Sheriff's big campaign donors and supporters. The voters rejected the previous Sheriff after one term, and have re-elected Burns for the last few years. This does not set well with the previous Sheriff's supporters.
This is pretty much it in a nutshell. Sour grapes, personal vendettas, and pissed off families of lawbreakers.
So....I guess Robbie Morgan was just a rumor? Steve hired him, and backed him right up till the last, and that was just too much, was Robbie just a rumor too?

I was not familiar with Robbie Morgan,, although I had heard the name , so I went to The Greeneville Sun archives and found a story dated 4/03/13. In the story, it stated that Morgan committed his crime , while on duty on Christmas Day 2011. He "resigned" from the Sheriff's office in March 2012, less than 3 months later.

Burns is quoted as saying that his office cooperated with the state's investigation, and based on that investigation, "he (Morgan)no longer works here." He went further to say that the department didn't condone his actions. This was a story in March of this year quoting Burns from 2012. Since Morgan "resigned" 2 to 3 months after the crime, and Burns said shortly thereafter that he no longer worked there based on the investigation results, I find it misleading to say that Burns "backed him (Morgan) right up to the last." His trial was not until 2013 I believe. Go to the Greeneville Sun archives and search for Robbie Morgan yourself.

Robbie had been trouble 5 times in past 6 years. Insurance committee asked Steve to remove Robbie 4 times. So yes he did back him till the end. All the way up till tbi got involved. Also wjhl kept calling Steve so he had no choice but to corporate. This is not Robbie first law suit against this county thanks to Steve burns.

I really don't know enough about that situation to comment on it, so I won't . I don't know the truth behind it. I do know that the person "resigned" two and a half months after the incident, so I would assume that he was given the option to resign or be fired. The Sheriff would be obligated to defend his department until the evidence proved otherwise.

Having said that, I agree with others that there should be term limits. Two terms is long enough for any elected office. The thing that I don't understand is why Sheriff is an elected office. We don't elect a police chief. Why Sheriff?

Yea, it didn't tell you in the 'made for politics' newsparer, how many things Steve let Robbie get away with, did it? Did it tell you about the FBI cleaning out Steves building, of everything he didn't have a recipt for either, did it? If all you have to back up a point is the Greeneville Sun, you have less than nothing! The people in office are always 'sunny side up'in the Greeneville Sun!

You hit a point on which we agree! Term limits, it's good enough for the Governor, make it the same for Sheriff, two terms and your done!

You haven't heard of Robbie Morgan and you are relying on the Greeneville Sun for all your information about Sheriff Burns? Why are you even commenting on something you have no clue about? You must not be from Greeneville because if you were you'd know not to believe anything that the Greeneville Sun printed.

Well, it's not like I can get my information from Topix. And yes I am from Greeneville. Most of my information about Sheriff Burns comes from knowing his father, his wife, his son, his daughter, and him for many years. I said that I had heard of Robbie Morgan, but was not familiar with his case, as I have never discussed it with the Sheriff. Most of my beliefs about Burns comes from knowing the man.

Do I know everything about him? Of course not, but I formed an opinion many years ago, and have seen nothing to change it. If I do, my opinion will change. It will not change because of unfounded rumors.
