Has anyone else heard that det. Pat Hankins will be running for sheriff? I'm, to say the least, excited about his decision to run.

I will be for any one but Steve burns. Term limits 15 years is too long Steve. Not to mention we are last in state on crime being solved.

He lets his officers get by with murder. He seems totally oblivious to the fact that his is an ELECTED position and that he and his officers have to follow the law too.

What's the truth to this? I always hear about him being a crook but no one can ever give me factual evidence that he has ever done anything wrong. Usually when I ask, the person complaining goes into a story how he put their family member behind bars for drugs. Isn't that what he's suppose to do? I just want to know of their is actual truth to him doing anything wrong? Where's the evidence?

The truth is that when a Sheriff in a small county like Greene stays in office for several years, he has pissed off hundreds, if not thousands, of people by simply doing his job, arresting people who break the law. The criminal has friends and many extended family members if the family has lived here for a few generations.

In Burns' particular case, there is also bad blood going back several years, with the previous Sheriff, who is now a Deputy. Burns has beaten him in 2 different elections , after losing to him the first time he ran. The previous Sheriff comes from the south side of Greene Co. and has several supporters who constantly bash Burns, ans start rumors, because they want the former Sheriff back in. Burns arrested one of the former Sheriff's big campaign donors and supporters. The voters rejected the previous Sheriff after one term, and have re-elected Burns for the last few years. This does not set well with the previous Sheriff's supporters.

This is pretty much it in a nutshell. Sour grapes, personal vendettas, and pissed off families of lawbreakers.

Thanks for the info. This is what I figured and had always thought about the issue when I ask those who complain about him. I've known Steve personally for years and he's always been nice to me and my family. Perhaps I like him because none of my family has ever broken the law past speeding or littering. Until someone proves to me he has done something wrong, he will have my vote.
ok so...

I don't know Pat Hankins, but I've heard of him being compared to a leader of the mafia and not in a good way.

Again I don't know him, hell he might be the next pope.

Another Jones supporter making wild claims. If Pat is running, he will have my vote. I do feel Steve has become a bit lazy on the job and he's been in the position for a long time. I am one that believes in term limits for elected positions, so it is time for new ideas.

I think that the Jones supporter and contributor that Burns sent to prison was a Fillers, and I think it was some kind of drug charge. They even put on Topix a year or more ago that Burns would be arrested and jailed within the week. He should have finished his time by now, and be back on the streets, if that rumor was true. They will never get over Jones losing the 2 elections.
