The hauntings from The Massacre at Shelton Laurel continue to this day.It happened almost 150 years ago when the poor boys were left hanging. I would think this is what he saw.

I've always contended that there were some Sheltons in Wrong Turn. So it makes sense that it took place in Shelton Laurel.

My husband and his friends went hiking/camping up there for 2 day a couple of years ago. They came across an old man hiking in the woods with dogs coming up behind them carrying a shot gun. He re-directed them in another direction and told them to stay going that way. He said to never come up there without a gun, because of bears. The man himself kinda creep the guys out though. I've wanted to go up there and hike the waterfall but am too scared of the local mtn men with shot guns.

Yep, that's part of it. Folks can call it what they want, a haunting, ghosts, negative energy, a rip in the time/space continuum, whatever floats your boat! The fact is, for generations now since that horrific event, somethings been freaking people out up there. The funny part to me is who Ive heard report things. It's one thing for locals who grew up hearing about the killings and hauntings to say they saw something, but it's alot different to hear it from someone who's not from here say it. I can remember some kids from TC about 10 or 12 years ago telling me what they saw, and how visibly shaken they were about it. They had no idea what had happened up there, so I drove two of them back up to where the old state historic sign was and told what I knew about it. I don't think any of them ever went back up that way.

Another "enigma" of that area is something reffered to as "the little people". Old timers have told stories forever about them, all up and that mountain ridge. Old Cherokee legends talk of them too. I've had several people tell me that they've seen something that fits the discription. Some of them I can't say I really believed. However, two men I've known my whole life, would trust them with my family's lives, and find it hard not to believe they saw something... What? I have no idea. Anybody else on here ever seen or heard anything about this?

Another place of interest up on Cold Spring Mountain are the two Union soldier's graves. A third body-that of a 13 year old boy who was the lookout-is buried with them. The USG would not pay for a grave marker for the boy. This area is not far from Shelton Laurel and was an area where Confederate bushwackers operated. Lots of outliers in those mountains who fought a guerrilla type war.

I'm not much of a believer in ghosts-at least I don't believe they cause harm, but it is a weird lonesome place up there on the Appalachian Trail.
