<quoted text>I'm curious...why the interest in ideas? Are you someone in a position to start a business, stimulate economic growth, chamber and/or partnership member, etc. or simply asking for the sake of discussion?
Why the interest ? Because I'm tired of doing and watching others do the same things over and over and hoping for different results ( I know that's the definition of LUNACY ).

Yes I am in the position to start a business . Economic growth comes from a number of factors, the most important, in my opinion is community participation.

And no I am not a member of either of these, so called community improvement organizations.

Yes discussion is a great way to start.

New leadership and a better education system would stimulate business in this town. Both are corrupt and inadequate. The hierarchy of families that is trying to hold onto all the land and control existing businesses and jobs in our county is killing it.
I don't see anything changing in my lifetime, so my house is up for sale and I am moving my children away before they are ready to enter the workforce. In a way I feel guilty for my dismal thoughts and my actions, but feel certain that an outsider's efforts to change anything, even for the better, would not be welcome in this clannish place. It is really a shame. This is a beautiful place with so much potential. I am just not willing to try and clean up someone else's mess, especially when the word change is treated like a disease by most residents. Good luck to those who stay.

Glad you are leaving our beautiful small town. It's skanks like you who are ruining it here. Take your nasty inbred children an go make life somewhere else. We are sick of feeding your family and paying your bills. Good bye.

Only a moron could use my post to imply they have paid my bills or fed my children. To be clear. I am leaving to keep my children from becoming part of this place filled with dimwits like you. Apparently the mere presence of someone as intelligent and progressive as myself scares you. And, for the record, I am the one who is tired of my taxes are paying the way for you and your relatives on THE disability, THE SNAP and at Greene Valley. Au revoir!

I get it that THE disability is what a lot of lazy people and the few who actually deserve it get on, and that Greene Valley is where the parents who don't want to deal with retarded children dump their kids, but what is THE SNAP? P.S. Good luck on selling your house. I just sold mine.

Was it hard selling your house? Did you get a lot of interest in it? Is the market here any better now? I'm ready to move on too.
It took about 4 months and we had quite a bit of interest. The market is not very good, but you just need one person who is qualified and wants your house. Some advice that I would give:

1) Don't be in your house when people come to look. It makes prospective buyers uncomfortable, and want to leave in a hurry. Let the realtor handle it.
2) Make sure that your house is decluttered. Rent something if you have to in order to get excess junk moved out. Your house will appear much larger if it doesn't look busy and crowded.
3) Make sure everything works because there will be a home inspection.
4)Keep it spotless when it is to be shown. We requested one day's notice beforehand, in order to clean it thoroughly. We both work and needed more than a couple hours notice.

I agree...amazing burgers. Surprisingly, though, Steak-n-Shakes are pretty rare. The only one I know of (given that I'm from Asheville & just moved to the area) is at the Wal-Mart shopping center at the Marshall/Weaverville exits.

Surely somebody has an idea hidden way back in their mind, it doesn't matter if you think it won't work, tell me about it. There just might be somebody out there that knows how to make it work , they just need you to mention it to get the ball rolling. There goes another chicken, in sun glasses even!
The area is in need of a hockey arena and learn to skate programs.

Industry will come when we as a community have what they need.
An educated work force and infrastructure to match their needs.
Education is the largest hurdle we have to overcome. Until we limit government and political influence in our schools this will be a problem.

I know of one company that came to Greeneville 25 years ago and wanted to start their employees out at a higher than average wage (for the time and area). The Greeneville Mafia wouldnt let them until they agreed to pay a lower wage. The company agreed but also paid their employees bonus checks for quality and production. The "Old Money" lawmakers were afraid that if this company started their employees out at the higher wage, then the other industries in this town would be expected to pay their employees more or risk losing them to the better paying company. What a shame that Greeneville government wants to keep our citizens struggling to live, but you dont see them suffering !!! Lord, please help our little town !

When I moved here it surprised me that most people I met or talked to don't think anything of going to Johnson City or Knoxville to eat out or shop. Maybe with the price of gasoline up that's changed. Mostly the new businesses I've seen have to do with eating and pay minimum wage. Good companies that pay living wages and have lots of room for advancement are frowned upon by our current leaders. Unless it is something that Park Overall would be against.

someone needs to open another place like the old Ole Leary's. A place where we could listen to good live music, eat decent food, and NOT HAVE TO GO TO THE NASTY HYPE!!!
