Not too long ago, GHS students were about as bad as it got. Plenty of good students, do not get me wrong. But, when you take into consideration how disrespectful they were to county kids in general, I didn't want to be around them. Maybe things have changed in the span of a decade or so, but I doubt it. Parents need to be more concerned with academics and leave sports as a fun release for kids. Who do these games entertain the most? The parents and adults is what it seems like.
This is why Japan rolls out beyond average students constantly. Give yourselves a pat on the back for creating an environment that allows for sports to consume the minds of our children.
correct me if I'm wrong..... But Greeneville is held to a higher grade average then the county.. The high school is rank 18 in the state for academics, and they are one of three school in tenn. to get a reward for getting their kids ready for college. Sounds like they do worry about their kids education..... Just saying

I was really speaking nationwide on that point. As I said, good students. I won't deny that the curriculum and grades are better there, but there is more funding for the school as well. Can you really deny that too much focus is placed on sports? Please give me some details on that. You might just change my point of view.

I agree that sometimes to much is put on sports. How many in the city or county make it to professional ball? I can't think of any. I have seen parents try to relive their days thru their kids. I know most parents think their kids can do no wRong but we know that is not true. If parents will get involved in their kids lives for the right reasons then this could be a better world.
So what happens when these great players end up with injuries that ruin their sports?

This is funny because Case use to coach at ghs. Or did you forget that.. seems they let him go because he was dating a student then married her after she graduated. They were even honest and told about it because she was 18 at the time.
Retha, Joe's wife, didn't go to GHS. He left GHS to go coach with (then) state powerhouse Mo West.

Sad story when that happens. Hopefully the good grades would pick them up with some kind of career.

You really are dense. It's not the county school kids we were rude too. It's you we didn't want to be around. I pat my back every day in knowing my kids are involved in sports. Hopefully, they won't end up like you and become obsessed with TOPIX!

your right they do... Because there is one high school and 45percent of the students are low income . I don't work for the schools, so I can't till you for sure. But they do have school programs if they are being held to a higher standard. Sports are always a focus no matter what school it is

i got to thinking..... That might be why they do put sports on top. If I didn't have money for college , but I had the grades, and I knew sports would get me there..... You bet your $&@ I'd play. I'd play my heart out. I also talked to a friend of mine , who's child graduated this passed may. In a class of almost 200 kids they received a totally of almost 3 million dollars in scholarships. Maybe that why, so those kids do have a chance to go to school

Well, I see your point. But, I also think about how stable each scholarship is. There is far less chance that you will lose brain power than being hurt playing a violent game. I was under the impression that most, if not all, college players rely year to year on their performance. If something was to happen they wouldn't be able to complete school, right? If I am wrong then it does change a bit of my thoughts in that aspect.

Also, at no fault of the current parents or players, the colleges have grown dependent on a good football/basketball team for a good reputation as a school. It brings in revenue and pumps up the name of schools. So there is even more push for parents and youth to seek out sports funding. I think that is along the lines of your post as well.

Greeneville has been a dominating team for quite some time now. I am not so sure that has EVERYTHING to do with talent. If it does, well they have far more people to draft players from than any county school. It only makes sense.

some schools will move hurt players, if grades are good, to be cheerleaders to keep them in school. Maybe they do different things for different people.

The topic is about the prediction of the outcome of the game, not whether you wanted to hang out with GHS students. It's also not about schools in Japan dipwad.

Funding. Ok i am going to give you some homework. Look at the percentage of kids that families are on some type of government help that go to GHS and look at the percentage that go to West Greene. I am just saying that there is money in the county. Its just that MOST parents not ALL but MOST in the county won't even go watch their kid play, and when you ask for a donation to help the sports team they will not donate. At GHS families get out and work to raise money. GHS has some of the best football, band, baseball, basketball, socce r,volleyball......and the list goes on boosters in the state. GHS band goes on a big trip every other year to march in a parade, and all money is raised by boosters. So there is just as much money in the county as there is at GHS. I am tired of hearing the excuses. Get off your butts and support your kids a little bit. Take some pride in the community. Quit blaming everyone else and get out there and support your kids and the teams.

I suppose you forgot all about the funding that Niswonger threw into that school and the TUITION that is paid by anyone from the county wanting to send them to GHS. Also, if you cannot keep insults out of your responses, take the shit elsewhere. You have plenty of threads that you are talking smack on, meet up with me on them. I came here to get away from your scary ass for a moment.

Thanks for the info on them being moved to preserve the scholarships. I had no idea that was a routine thing.

I see no reason for these two teams to even be playing each other. Other than to pad GHS' win totals. I know I hated playing GHS in basketball every year cause they had some of the dirtiest players in the county.
I think this guy meant talented instead of dirtiest.Im sure they spanked your azz and little mad is all.But one thing is right Ghs don't need play WG at all. They never will be any chance of them even coming close.NeverEven though the enrollment is pretty close, and thats what Tssaa goes by?
