Every county school pays for their athletes every meal at the state tournament. GHS wrestlers were required to pay for their own food. Looks like the city schools are within their budget, they ought to be able to pay for the kids meals. Just saying.....

GHS came home with the gold.

It just looks like the administrators would afford to feed them since the country schools don't have a problem feeding their athletes.

I applaud GHS for not buying the meals. High schools do not operate like a college where they are required to provide a meal for the athletes. With all the complaints about the county budget I would expect people to be upset that the county schools are paying for meals for their athletes. If they have to buy a meal for every athlete on every road trip the cost would be astronomical.

My point being, the county schools are over budget and they buy food for their athletes but the city school who is way under budget doesn't.

We are really arguing over feeding our athletes? At least the city schools can start their school year on time. The county had to delay it a week because they didn't have the money. And they are complaining because the city has police officers. wow.

Take it however you like. I think its great that the football team and the wrestling team won state. I just think its a shame that they cannot afford to feed their athletes. Just my humble opinion!

Why the hell does everyone always want something for free?! These kids are not owed a free meal by the tax payers.

Penelope wrote: <quoted text> Maybe not but the county kids get it. Obviously GHS can't afford it It's a matter of choice. The county schools chose to purchase the meals for their athletes. Good for them. The city school decided not too. Good for them. Given the events that transpired at the beginning of the school year I doubt if the county school system has much they can say to the city about how they spend their money. I don't see why this is such a big deal.

County wrestlers (atleast from my school) paid for their own food all season. And, they had half a dozen fundraisers just afford to go to tournaments. You really shouldn't post when you don't check. And, stop whining, Greeneville city schools have better facilities, more coaches, etc. than any school out there. Some of the schools in our county can't even afford a whole mat to wrestle on...still they have a team and raise money to keep it going. Every once in a while city parents just have to pay up like the rest of us when there is not enough money for a free ride.

Her posts struck me as someone from the county who was using this as an opportunity to bash the city schools.

I said "AT THE STATE TOURNAMENT" county schools pay for the kids meals. I know this to be a FACT. my friends soon wrestles in the county and my other friends soon wrestles at GHS. These are facts! Call BS ask you want. You are WRONG!

Is this a topic because some parents couldn't afford the money??? Or is it because your trying to stir things up between the county and city school persons?
It's over and digging up the whys, if and buts, is just going to bring out the haters on why the city schools have it better than the country over all and how we are all so rich we could afford to send our children with boo coos of dollars to all events.

I do not harbor any ill will towards city schools, but do know that our county's school wrestling team is sorely underfunded and we have spent many, many hours this season volunteering at fundraisers so they could wrestle at all. I honestly do not know if our school will be paying for food at the upcoming state tournament. I apologize to Penelope and can no longer call bullsh*t. Overall, I do feel that city school sports are much better funded than county. Just a fact, not a bash. Not stirring up trouble. I am not even originally from this area and could care less about the decades old city vs. county school fued here.

I don't have a child in this race. I knew how hard some county schools patents and athletes had to work to get the money for wrestling. I applaud any athlete/school for making it to the state tourney. I outside any team/athlete that wins state. I certainly don't want to cause a war. I was simply stating that GHS obviously has it in their budget to pay for their athletes meals at state just as the county schools do. They just choose not to. I do know that my friend is a single mother and it is very hard for her to come up with the money for her child to eat out that much. But she managed so I guess its all good. BTW she is a taxpayer as well, not asking for any freebies.
