What to do about Gossip

If you have been a gossiper, confess this as sin and ask Christ to forgive you.“Repent” by turning in a new direction and surrendering your tongue to Christ, not to gossip or bad-mouth again (1 John 1:9, 1 Cor. 7:10).
Keep your nose out of other people’s business.
If you can’t say something good or encouraging about others, then keep your mouth shut (Eph. 4:29).
Never criticize another person, except to their own face with an intent to help. Criticism can never be “constructive” if expressed to anyone else.
If your “friends” start bad-mouthing others to you, stop them in their tracks -- refuse to be a partaker of their sins (1 Tim 5:22).
Avoid association with persons who gossip (Prov. 20:19).
Expose works of darkness by reporting gossip to the pastor that he may confront and offer correction. Gossip should be treated as any other vile sin (Eph. 5:11).

Who will go to Hell? Instinctively we may think of the sinister kind of people... murderers, drug pushers, child molesters, etc. However, the Bible says:“...anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”(Rev. 20:15). This tells us that Hell will not only contain such evil people, but all those whose names are not written in the Book of Life.

According to the Bible, all human beings have a sinful nature that will condemn them to hell (Rom. 3:23, Rom. 6:23) unless they receive God’s gift of life. The Book of Life is the registry of Heaven, containing the names of all those who have received God’s gift. No one recorded in the book will go to Hell.

So how do we get our name written in the book of life? By placing faith in God’s Son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior! The scripture tells us that God sent Jesus into the world to take our sins upon Himself, as our substitute (2 Pet 2:24). He bore our sins, and died in our place -- so that all who would believe in Him and His sacrificial work would be saved.“God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”(John 3:16).

At the moment that we sincerely repent of our sins, and place our faith in Christ to live for Him, our name is written in Heaven (Luke 10:20), and someday when our body dies, our soul will go to Heaven to be with the Lord for eternity (Col. 1:5).

How about you? Is your name written in Heaven? Are you living for God? Are you a backslider? If you would die tonight, are you sure that you would go to Heaven, instead of Hell?

For the sake of eternity, please don’t wait another minute! Call upon Jesus in sincerity and ask Him to become your Savior. As the scripture states:“...if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved”(Romans 10:9).

The scripture states:“But there shall by no means enter it (Heaven) anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.”(Rev. 21:27).

There are several words in the original text of scripture translated as “Hell.” Our reference to Hell comes from the Greek,“GEHENNA - Place of everlasting punishment”

To accept Christ, Pray this from your heart:
“Dear God, I come to you in Jesus name and I ask you to forgive all my sins. I believe that Jesus died for me and rose from the dead so that I can have eternal life. Thank you for sending the Spirit of Christ to dwell in my heart from this day forward. Thank you for saving me and writing my name in the book of life. In Jesus name, Amen.” Now that you’ve become a Christian, be sure to find a good Bible-believing church to attend regularly. Many who respond to something disagree with it. That's to be expected. Agreeing tends to motivate people less than disagreeing. And when you agree there's less to say. You could expand on something the author said, but he has probably already explored the most interesting implications. When you disagree you're entering territory he may not have explored.

The result is there's a lot more disagreeing going on, especially measured by the word. That doesn't mean people are getting angrier. The structural change in the way we communicate is enough to account for it. But though it's not anger that's driving the increase in disagreement, there's a danger that the increase in disagreement will make people angrier. Particularly online, where it's easy to say things you'd never say face to face.

If we're all going to be disagreeing more, we should be careful to do it well. What does it mean to disagree well? Most readers can tell the difference between mere name-calling and a carefully reasoned refutation, but I think it would help to put names on the intermediate stages. So here's an attempt at a disagreement hierarchy:

DH0. Name-calling.

This is the lowest form of disagreement, and probably also the most common. We've all seen comments like this:
u r a fag!!!!!!!!!!
But it's important to realize that more articulate name-calling has just as little weight. A comment like
The author is a self-important dilettante.
is really nothing more than a pretentious version of "u r a fag."

Learn to read and if you can read please take a course in general understanding.

I hate the fact you were letting our other topics friends put so called facts on here and you never posted. If this young person has not selected a mate then how are their statements more than mere gossip?

I do know you didn’t understand my letter. It seems you have jumped to the conclusion that if it sounds like a father figure so called preaching then it is wrong and overstepping a hypothetical bounds. I would have to understand how far away from standards you feel you have driven yourself in your life to know where the hypothetical line begins.

If you feel Brandon loves gossip being told about him then that is your preference but it is wrong morally and biblically. Kinda “bites” when human morals and classroom standards has adopted biblical principles either way gossip is wrong.

Hate you feel so gun hoe on gossip or just didn’t read due to your “I’m OK he’s OK attitude or you just didn’t understand basic English dialogue.

Here are the fellows who started this chat.

I think they are looking to get a date and trying to weed out possible like interests on an open web page. I guess it is better than writing graffiti of sexual interests and rendezvous on public bathroom “toilet wall dividers” as was done pre internet days.

I'm confused! Sounds like Paul built a case as to why we shouldn't gossip. I thought he was heading off potential negative gossip about Brandon...who I really belive is a super guy and friend. Was I wrong? Did I get this backwards?

Paul - you are the worst type of Christian. One who professes to know it all and stands in judgement of others. You've spent all this time spamming the board with this nonsense when you could have actually been doing something productive to honor your God. Your God doesn't like people who judge just like he doesn't like those who gossip. All of that time and you could have helped feed the needy, helped a neighbor, assisted the elderly, or something of value.

Remember - arguing on the internet is like the Special Olympics. Even if you "win", you are still retarded.

Do you really think anybody's gonna read all your monotonous posts? No.

All you succeeded in doing is keeping this gossip thread brought to the top of the forum.
