Well I was going to pay my property tax online to save a stamp or a drive in there. Get over to fill out card info and see they was going to charge an extra $20 for credit card payment or $11 for check. What a ripoff, I guess I'll just have to breakout the stamp.

I went to the site to check this out. If I understood what I read, no matter how you pay your taxes online: debit, credit or online check, it costs you more? Is that what you understood? I don't get it, especially for debit. The payor is doing all the work, they are getting paid immediately and no employees are involved, but it costs me more? Does it cost more to send a check via snail mail? Not being silly, being serious. I am trying to decide if this is a new policy this year or what. Are they looking to get nothing but real cash? I have always paid by check...dropping off at office and never been charged any additional fee..so why would it cost more for me to do the same thing myself on-line?

They'll probably start charging $15 to open the envelope or $15 for going in an paying, rent for taking up space.

I actually was having good thoughts about them for finally catching up with rest of the world, by being able to pay online. Boy did that good thought turn bad, they're like the Mafia trying to take every dime they can from us. Bunch of damn crooks!

A convenience fee is charged to the cardholder by the payment clearing house for processing credit card or e-check payments. None of this fee is retained by the County. You will have an opportunity to see what the fee will be before completing your payment.

Basically they're charging 2.75% for credit/debit card transaction. That's close to what Paypal charges. They're probably using some company like Paypal to do the transactions.

You'd think the State of Tn could handle this themselves so they wouldn't have to charge this convenience fee. Why do we employee these people if they're just going to pay some company to do their job for them?

I had to send them a stamped self addressed envelope to get a receipt. I have property in another county and I don't have this problem there.

They're getting $82.00 extra from me this year. Hope they spend it wisely. I sure didn't need that money.

Several of these folks have said voters will forget about the tax increase before the next election and they are probably right!
