Just an observation. Critics of Takoma and Laughlin seem to take turns bashing the relative facilities. Just a matter of one's frustration level and access to a keyboard. The complaints would probably be louder if the nearest hospital was in Johnson City. Further, the priorities I've observed in both hospitals: Heavy bleeding, heart/chest pain, convulsions, unconsciousness. Everyone else, regrettably, has to take a number and wait.

I can say from personal experience that neither hospital is any good. Took my daughter to Takoma last Sept. They treated her for low potassium level & sent her home. Two days later she was taken to another hospital and was put on a ventilator and was in that hospital for 8 weeks. All because Takoma didn't know what the hell was wrong with her. I wouldn't take my dog to either one.

I just saw the Takoma ad in the Greeneville Sun this morning. Why do they employ so many nurses when they do not have that many patients? I am not being mean...just wondering.

I have been to both hospitals and they both have their pros and cons. Waiting is part of it, unfortunately. The whole "no wait ER" is a bunch of BS. Takoma seems to rush the check-in portion of the wait and then it could be anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours before you are sent to a room. I am assuming the "no wait ER" is referring to not having to wait to be checked in. I think that is false advertisement.

Now that you brought it to my attention, the media ads to that effect seem to have disappeared of late. Since I don't recall, are the billboards advertising 'no wait' still up? Also note LOL's post #16 on this subject.

It should really get interesting once obamacare is fully implemented. You may want to pack your lunch and dinner when visiting the doc

Ok everyone, if you go to the ER, always ask for a printout of your charge sheet. You may find interesting material such as approximately $1,000 worth of drug tests if you only went in for nausea/vomiting. Happened to me. Dr. Rasheed was the physician in that night. Also, you may or may not know, never pay your copay. By law, Takoma ER must treat you regardless of your ability to pay. If they start doing things like MSHA, not necessarily. But let's just be honest, don't go to the ER unless you're really needing it. Never pay your copay or deductible, at least not within the first month after your treatment. After a full month, go right ahead. Also, beware of all of the bugs that are crawling in the floor there...its just disgusting.

In short, the hospital will try to stick you with a bill that you don't deserve, pull as much money as they can out of you at time of service, and try to get you to take bugs home with you indirectly...
