Yea from time to time. The prices are a $1 cheaper on the 100# than the foundry is. Kind of a ripoff but hey,it keeps you from having to drive to town. I hauled what was left of an old piano over there the other day. It brought good.

That was actually built because of all the tornado destruction and was created to be a mobile scrap unit to help aid in clean-up situations such as that. A mobile unit for areas of destruction and places that are several miles from a scrapyard serves as a convenience for those cleaning up and the scrapyard will of course benefit from scrap. That mobile unit was not cheap or easy to build. The scrap guy is not to blame for pill head thieves. They would sell it somewhere else if not there. I think I would rather run off the pill heads than the scrap guy. Get you a no trespassing sign, a gun and maybe even a cheap hunting camera that can be installed outside easily and get rid of the real problem.

Funny..but far from it. I actually scrap my cans at Rocky's..because it's close to home. Logical and convenient, just like the mobile unit out there in the country, just like Dixie said it was more convenient to take his old piano there. I was just educating you on why it was created and being sensible about the root of the problem. Do you really think if the scrap guy is gone the drug problems are all solved and the pill heads are gonna stop stealing and go earn an honest living?

May not stop them, but would make it harder on them. They probably wouldn't have the gas to drive into town. And Greeneville Iron & Paper is a lot more vigilant over buying stolen scrap metal. The mobile scrap guy not so vigilant.

Who do you think designed and owns that mobile unit? It didn't just magically appear. It was your local vigilant scrap yard. Have you not realized there are theft reports in all areas of the city and county every day? It is not just a tiny area caused by the presence of the scrap guy. Maybe you should just get rid of all the cars out there so they can't drive to town if they get some gas money & that would keep them from driving to your house to steal your metal also. Or you could just close all the doctor's offices that prescribe the pills, that in turn wind up on the streets for sale. Again, realistically, it's a horrible vicious cycle and the scrap guy is not the root of the problem, nor will it's absence keep the thieves from thieving.

Yes I know Greeneville Iron & Paper owns it, what I meant is they are more vigilant and the main headquarters. By Tennessee law must be 18 years old, thumb print, drivers license and signature to sell scrap to them.

I'll leave it at that for the time being.

Yea I'd say you might be right about that. It looks like a shady set-up going on there. I just take cans there cuz it's convenient and they are always helpful. I really don't know who helps the thieves out. I do understand where the other poster's concern comes from. My point was that the mobile unit was not created simply for the convenience of thieves. There are crooked people everywhere and somebody, somewhere is always gonna make a deal on something, no matter how immoral it is. It's a shame we all have to worry about getting our hard-earned things stolen by a pathetic thief.

well the reason i started this post is i haul alot of junk metal and junk cars and have been hauling for a long time and i can guess the weight of a load of junk metal or junk cars pretty close to the weight. I most of the time haul to rockys. But decited to try the scrap guy because i was close to it. Well i took a junk car to scrap guy and i had hauled 2 cars like this before and knew pretty close to the weight of it well when they got the weight of it they was 300lbs light of the two i haul to rockys so i decited to haul it to rockys and the weight of it at rockys was 310lbs more then what the scrap guy said it was. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with them? Or maybe people dont know about that and should know

Well that makes a lot more sense and people should know about that. Maybe you should give the owner a call and see what they say. Somebody may be making a profit that the owners are unaware of.
