How many of the students on the Greeneville High football team live in the county.

Is Greeneville High taking good players away from the county schools?

I myself have heard enough about Greeneville High School....its pretty sad that the residents of Greeneville/Greene county don't get behind the county high schools like they do Greeneville. Some of the high schools don't even have enough books for all the students...they have to share books among 3 or 4 students in class and not aloud to take them home!!!The school board needs to look into that but will that happen probably NOT!!!!

Guess what, The city buses do not go out to the county and pick the kids up. They either drive or their parents bring them for a better education.

Talked to a parent of a county high school football player who says his son was offered free tuition and a ride to school if he would come play for Greeneville. Isn't this called recruiting?

Some parents actually lie. Bottom line is, it is still the parents decision unless the child is 18!

It is the parents decision but we all know it happens. It happens at GHS and it happens here in Knoxville too. I have no problem with it as long as the parents are trying to help their children from an academic standpoint and not just for athletic reasons. Let's face it, only about 1 in 100,000 of these kids have NFL/NBA talent. There are private schools here in Knoxville that charge $17,000+ for tuition so if your child can get free tuition there it would be crazy to not give that opportunity to them.

Maryville is similar to GHS in that it allows kids who live in the county to attend there if they pay tuition. So if you have a son that has some potential in football and you can afford the tuition it only makes sense to send them to Maryville. But in my opinion the things that set them apart from other programs in the state is their feeder programs and of course Coach Quarles. He has beaten some West Tenn. teams that had more speed and talent but he simply out coaches everyone.

Yeah, you are right. He is one heck of a coach. I've never been to a game there, but I have heard the town shuts down on Friday night to attend the game.
You have heard right, it's a great place to a HS football game, especially if they are playing Alcoa.

I just wished you people would stop
Whining so much!. If county kids go to Ghs it's because clearly they want to.. I'm from the county but it's getting old for you people to constantly blame Ghs for everything.. I bet when you get diarrhea or it rains you blame Ghs!. There's good kids there and when you just keep on about their school your judging them. Grow up!

I'm not whining or blaming GHS for anything. I simply said that they are similar to Maryville in that county kids could attend there if they wanted to pay tuition. I have no problem with it at all.

Blount County is an amazing place when it comes to football. Two of he strongest teams in the state located a few miles from each other. I would love to attend a maryville Alcoa game someday.

I have been to 3 Alcoa/Maryville games and the atmosphere is unbelievable. It seems like everyone in the county turns out and both schools have quality programs and rich traditions. Quarles and Rankin are two of the best HS coaches around and it's great fun to watch them strategize against each other. Don't you just love HS football?
