i was always under the impression that the reason city schools were funded like they are was because of them being "have-nots". just look at all the future car stealing, bank robbing, old womens purse snatching, child molesting, cocaine dealing, project living minorities that go there... i'm confused. putting a football in a future convicts hands won't make him any less of a criminal.

<quoted text>
"Oh now I am calling BULL"?? That must be some of that "city" language.
Our first child went to the city schools, our thinking that he would get a better education in the city. All our family got from that decision was heartache and pain. A "coach" helped our son along with the drug scene -- that was some years ago and the coach is no longer there so, no their name will not be mentioned here.
Our second child went all through their schooling in the county school system. While the county school system (since they don't get money from two sources like the city does) does not have as much to offer in some ways, our second child excelled in academics and will graduate from college shortly.
Now some may say it was the child that made the difference, we do not share that view. Drugs "WERE" readily available to our first son on campus -- he didn't need a coach to introduce him to drugs.
In the county schools (including high school) the drug scene is almost non-existent or not tolerated -- at least at the county high schools he attended.
Both our sons are grown now and if we have any grandchildren down the road, we will definitely put in our 2-cents worth as to where those precious little one(s) will go to school.
More is NOT always better.
As for city versus the county when it comes to attitudes (I am better than you)-- the city children are taught this from birth. I actually feel sorry for anyone who (for whatever reason) has this kind of attitude. They will definitely have a harder time in life on the people level. Now, when it comes to their click group - no problem -- but, with the rest of the world -- not so good.
Our two sons are products of two different school systems: One son was introduced to drugs while at school and, to this day, has a terrible attitude; our second son gets along with everyone and will graduate with honors soon.
So, from experiences lived by our family, we would never recommend sending a child to the city system.
Okay no drugs in the county schools huh? Now it is time for those blinders to be yanked off!!!

Chuckey doak has just as many drug using children there as just about anywhere, Yeah I know many teens that smoke the wacky weed, pop those pills and their parents either are strung outr or just don't care... so don't put all the drug using on Greeneville High.. You need to wake up and look around, drugs are EVERYWHERE!!!

and you can only hope your child doesn't fall to peer pressure.

Just because I live in the city now doesn't mean I have lived here all my life I had one graduate with honors from south greene only to find out she was a pot head!!

Can I judge people yep it's our nature, you did I will just how it is... But don't go thinking just cause the city schools have a bit more that we are all stuck up... OKay I am but not all

No wonder the children in our area fight against each other instead of learning to unite, work, and become productive citizens. You adults should be terribly ashamed of yourself for projecting images not worth of being reviewed. Our children need good, strong mentors. Children come from the city and county both good and bad. Many children from affluent homes turn bad and many children from bad homes turn good. What's important is that each adult contribute to a child's development to the best of his/her ability. Revisit the implications your statements make on these impressionable teens before posting such comments.

Ill say it. County kids are not as valuable as city schooled kids. Unless those county kids were city schooled like myself then its the factory life for them. If county parents loved their kids they would pay tuition for city schools. When I was in school I went to county schools (mind I was city schooled) just walked on in. Now I was trolling for county parents ignorant daughters who are easy enough to talk out of their gunny sack dresses be it hard to understand their hill speak at times. In short city kids have brighter futures to protect and county girls are easy good day!

Anon, you must be ignorant. I went to a small county elementary school. We had the best student-teacher ratio ever possible. Of the eighth-graders from that elementary school who entered high school during my year and graduated, there was 1 entrepreneur, 2 nurses, 2 accountants, 1 guidance counselor, and 1 safety specialist. I don't see the word FACTORY in those job descriptions. Besides, there is no harm in one who maintains a factory job. It is a needed trade. Those people are earning an honest living. Some of them accrue better wages than clerical positions. Take Parker Hannifin's wages vs. the county clerical offices. Those ladies would love to obtain the wages, bonuses, and benefits provided to the employees.

If this is what Topix is coming to, it really does need to be reviewed. It should be only a forum where people can exchange knowledgeable information or opinions about topics which are important to everyone.

I suggest, instead of exchanging whether the city or county is best, why don't you "concerned citizens" focus all of that time and attention trying to provide a safer environment and education for ALL children.

Can you read? Obviously you are only pulling from the blog what you choose. Read. Yes, I am a proud product of the county school system with 6+ years of college education. I have been fortunate enough to obtain knowledge from an immense source of mentors throughout my life.

I know many wonderful people who live in the city and the county. Thank God they are good products of society not instigators of a stench such as the one you are trying to create.

I truly wish some of the adults would grow up and really contemplate the posts that are made. You are influencing children who are going through a developmental stage and creating problems. That is not maturity at any level.

As stated prior, I am glad a lawsuit is being pursued over this site in hopes of prompting the owners to pursue stronger reviews before release of a post.

Seriously?? You're going to go there?? I've seen an ass load of beaners walking out of that school too so... your point is not valid. Thank you. Come again. It must really chap your asses that your city kids are being mostly taught by teachers that attended county. Your city is within the county and all i'm saying is that it was nice of this loving and gracious place to build a nice school for the future inmates of our little town to be able to learn too.

I graduated from a county school, Sadly. I think that they should amp up, and have the officers roam the hallways, and the grounds regularly. Without a set schedule. However, As for the statement on the acdedemic stature of the Greene County School system, in comparison to the Greeneville City school system? County IS majorly sub par.I went to both City and County schools, and whn I transfered to the County Schools, I felt like I was being stuck into a special ed class. I would have never graduated with the GPA I did from a City school. With that said, I am not saying that County School children are stupid, nor am I saying that their parents are. I am, however, saying that they are ignorant, due to the low standards of the county schools. Ignorant meaning Unlearned, not stupid, just to clarify.

First off. I went to WGHS for two years and I went to GHS for two years. Also attended GMS two years and Mosheim for one. That being said I can tell you (me being a pot smoker) that there is a drug scene in every god damn school in this county. Are you folks serious? Your parents and you act like this. Greeneville high has a better curriculum and offers a hell a lot more. Hands down. There isn't even a argument. Do you know why that is? BECAUSE its a fucking city school. Because the city of Greeneville pays for better teachers and coaches. Its better funded. You really can't compare it. I loved WGHS had so much fun there. But I had a math teacher named miss Ingram in 2005. She was a very nice lady but she seemed off. She was really shy and soft spoken and she couldn't teach a damn thing. She was fired the next year. Her test scores where too low. Also I had coach carter as a football coach and environmental science teacher. He was a shitty coach and an even worse teacher. The book we brought to class every day taught us more then him. That's all we did. Read chapter one and answer the questions BOOM that's it. There are some extremely good teachers there but there are some real crappy ones too. WHY? Because they are cheap and that's all the school can afford. I can't speak for the other county schools just the one I attended and seen first hand. Oh and drugs you ask? Pills where everywhere in WGHS I stayed away from that shit. An yeah I hung out with the other stoners. Ghs had more pot smokers then pill heads. Look at ABIC every kid in there was in trouble for damn drugs. And who cares about Mexicans and illegals and blacks and fucking whites. That doesn't mean shit.

I have worked for both systems(Greeneville City and Greene County Schools) and let me tell you, that county kids has more respect, act like someone etc. There are VERY FEW in the city schools that are good but most are way to big fo there pants. talking about county kids are not worth anything, WELL there are several GREENE COUNTY STUDENTS that gratuated that are now teaching city kids, and few are police officers in the city, and even a judge came from the couny schools. lawyers, singers, business owners, SO if you want to put county kids down LISTEN TO THIS Teachers from county teaching your kid, police arresting your kid , a student from county helps n court, and a judge that came from the county puts your kid in jail SO to me the county is taking your city! So lets dont put anyone down ALL schools has problems know matter what.A county kid may even save your life someday who knows.we are ALL here on earth together know matter who you are , and someday we all will leave this earth together and either go to HEAVEN OR HELL so we all should get along so who cares city or county schools. Like I said ive been both places and NO school is perfect.and no kid is perfect, and NO parents are perfect. Ive seen some who thought they was BUT at he end of time lets see how the perfect goes we ALL have to answer to what weve done.
