At least they did not raise taxes again, that would have been inappropriate. It was the only dignified thing for them to do.
Perhaps the newly elected officials can work on sticking to a budget, like the rest of us.

Gotta have more money to run the County... there has been enough "belt tightening"... Greene County has some of the lowest taxes in Tennessee - in fact on the entire East coast ! Get real Greene County / Greeneville - if ya want services ya gotta pay for them...

Greene county also has some of the lowest paying jobs ( if you can find one) in Tennessee - in fact on the entire east coast (even though it isn't on the coast). Taxes were raised last year just to give raises. If you agree with this then you must of been one of the recipients. Are they planning on raising them every year? Sounds like we have some genius mathematicians in office.

Inflation... just actual "inflation" will keep costs rising. That's why costs keep going up... even if you left everyone's salary at "even", the costs of things would keep going up... been to the grocery store lately ?... when the Town/County have to buy "things", they are usually more expensive to buy due to "inflation"... so if a clutch in a truck goes out and they have to replace it, it might have cost $125 two years ago but is now $ 145.(just an example, I have no idea what a clutch costs)... nobody got a raise - it just costs more to operate. MORE costs means a need for MORE taxes to pay for the higher prices. How is this hard to see ?

ALSO... "the East Coast" refers to the area from Maine to Florida which I included Eastern Tennessee in... if not, are we part of the Midwest or South... exactly where is East Tennessee in geographical terms ?

You are wrong old guy. You need to do your research. A lot of city and county employees got raises with the tax increase last year. If inflation is making prices higher, wouldn't that create more revenue from sales tax? Therefore no need to raise land taxes every damn year. How is this hard to see. We went for many years without an increase, was inflation not going on then? Just so you know, Tennessee is in the southeast.

I'll tell you what. You smart ass know it alls need to run for commission. First of all, it is not an easy job and the pay is $50.00 per month, if you attend the meeting. Since some of you like to bitch so much, why don't you give a list of options for commission since you obviously know it all. No one likes a tax increase. Again, post a list of reasonable options for the commission to consider. And, if you would take the time to do some investigating, we are not in this shape due to all of the commissioners, others are definitely at fault. There can be services cut, close the courthouses certain days per week, close convenience centers some days during the week, cut jobs, etc. There are all kinds of things to do to cut services. Will that make you happy? and to you GPD, you definitely should run for commission. Then you might see who gives a crap about our county and the citizens in it, and you might just be surprised. and since Quillen is such disgraceful fat ass, let's see what miracles you can perform.

How about cutting out some of the benefits they receive? Look at the health insurance, life insurance, matching retirement, travel for a start!!! Some is mandated, some is not. Don't hear them talking about that. At my workplace we have to pick up all the health insurance increase. Have you seen how some of those offices decorate for Christmas? Who pays for all that?
