I was too young to work at Magnavox, but many of my family worked there. I loved going with my papaw in the afternoon to pick up my mamaw. Those guys would come bolting out of the building, barking and hollering. They were so glad to be let out. Lots of fun!

This was the worst place to be at near the end. I would work 3 days then get laid off for a week then work 4 days then get laid off for 3 days then get called back for a day then get laid off again. The Hopsons were morons who had no clue how to run a business. Say what you will about cheap imports but they could have had a successful business had they had a brain. They were too busy trying to screw the women who worked on the floor. I was glad when I found another job and could tell them all to cram it as I sat back and watch it all fall apart from my new job.

Magnavox aka NAP brought Scotty to this town. Too bad he couldn't save that one huh? I know the electronics industry is tough, but that's a lot of square feet to waste.

Way back Magnavox was a fun place to work I know. My Mamaw has told me some stories. They used to get drunk on the line on Fridays. She'd take her bottle of liquor in. That's been 20-25 years ago, though, I guess. I was a teen at the time she'd tell us about it. There's lots of other stories, but I can't remember them. She could sure tell ya a bunch.

Yeah I really wanted a set that was built anywhere near a holiday - no wonder stuff got shipped with no picture tubes, half eaten sandwiches inside them, not to mention a design that would blow up if the power went off!

Bobby Payne was accused of being an a$$ by the people that were not worth a dime as a worker in the first place. If you were on time and did your job you could get along with Bobby. He did expect 8 hrs work for 8 hrs pay and a lot of people that hid behind the useless union had a problem with that.

it was too funny. i was one of the new hires, about 20 years old at the time. he ran through the wall and they blamed it on the new guys until he finally confessed to it. too funny.

I worked there for several years back in the early 80's off and on, and yes all those stories are true. Magnavox was a wild place to work, drinking, drugs, sex, had it all. I remember the big drug bust after they had a narc working in there, everybody was scared to death. I worked the evening shift, which was wilder that the day shift! Oh one more thing it is true the people would line up at quiting time and run out yelling like they had just escaped from jail!

Okay, so I worked there when I was very young. I agree, the unions were rediculous! If anyone got in trouble or didn't want to work, they would claim that they could "cover" you. As for my comment above about Bobby, I would have been an a$$ too if I had to deal with the slackers that worked in shipping. I could go on with stories all night. There were a few good people, but the vast majority were losers who were just looking to get the next lay off so they could "draw". Magnavox made me realize that I needed to buckle down and get in college. I now live very comfortable, so I guess I owe Magnavox a "thank you".

Does anyone know kathy hensly that worked there? She had redish hair. She worked there for a long time. Close to the end she became a boss and she is the biggest BITC* i have ever met. I seen her pick on young girls on her line they were good workers but she just had it out for them for some reason. Not to mention other cruel things she did to ppl. I hope karma has gotten her back by now. If her b*tch ass is on topix i would just like to give you a big F YOU witch!!!!
