Read the second paragraph in post #15. This will explain the raise. I don't know the Sheriff or the County Mayor, but I believe that they, along with all government officials are overpaid, but it is because of state regulations. It is not right for a poor county to have to come up with the money to pay elected officials at this rate. Something is way wrong when the best jobs in the county are paid by taxpayers. Where would these two go to find a comparable paying job in Greene County, with their backgrounds?

Lonnie your 100% correct the sheriff steve burns was a oil change mechanic for sheriff dept so we know that would not pay 87,500 per year.
Alan broyles the county mayor was a teacher.that would not pay 97,500 a year.so thanks too the hard working tax payer if greene county these two along with others have lived high on the hog.thats why its time for a change.

Texas more. You can find the crime solved rate. for each county on tbi.gov
Yes he wins easy because he lets many get out of trouble.he also hires many who has large voting families.
Also look at the millions in law suits he has cost us.he let robbie Morgan do what he did and thats going to cost us about 5u million. He let katie key die of because his dept was too lazy and cold to search the barn the night before.not too mention Steve burns was the one with bull horn pissing the boy off with comments about what was going to happen to him once he came out.so the boy felt trapped and killed that beautiful girl and himself. The list goes on and on about this sheriff. Make no joke about it other sheriffs near by know too that Steve burns ownes land everywhere. Even thow he makes 87,500 a year you cant own that much land in that many areas unless your hands are dirty.

Hell that's nothing. The guy who runs the partnership makes over $150,000 and doesnt go to work each morning until after 10 beacuse of a serious drinking problem.

I'm well aware where the statistics are, but you obviously dont. There is no such website TBI.GOV . I call BS on you, once again. You haven't looked at any statistics, rather, you are spewing out drivel that you've read on here from others that haven't a clue.

Look here, you don't want to lock horns with me if you can't back up your statistics. Come back when you can validate it. Otherwise, it's just unsubstantiated drivel.

As far as your theory on how he gets elected, you are an idiot. Having money doesn't bring you landslide victories in each election. Many wealthy people here in Greene Coounty can't get elected.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you have been in legal trouble in Greeneville, and that's why you don't like Mr. Burns.

Again Texas more you prove your iq.
Go to tbi.tn/gov.
I figure some that is smart as you could have found it.but your just a dumb voter that likes to keep dirty people with drug money in pay offs in office.
Oh i never been in trouble with any kind of law other than speeding ticket. So dont go that way.
I have a right to hate people who rip off tax payers in the name of law enforcement. Again two terms is long enough for anyone.

looked up this topic so I could find out where to go to sign the petition , but , alas , I haven't been able to find out on this posting. All I'm reading is slams against who is in office. That can be changed with the Home Rule , and I would gladly sign the petition , if I could find out where !

That's pretty stupid. It hasn't been that long. If you can't remember Terry Jones as Sheriff and Roger Jones as county mayor, they you must be about 10 years old. I think that Roger was the one that changed the title from county executive to county mayor.
its been since 1999 terry was sheriff. Roger did not change the name of mayor the state did. Steve will have been sheriff for 16 years after this term. Term limits to stop crooks

The citizens of Greene county should have the right to vote for or against tax increases.
Mayor Broyles and the 21 commissioners don't own Greene county the citizens do.
People they're taking advantage of us, let's put a stop to it!
How often have voters ever voted to tax themselves?

Did you study your history lessons and civic lessons when you were in school? Did you know that a major reason for the failure of government under the Articles of Confederation was due to the fact that the federal government was dependent on the states giving it money which they chose not do. My U. S. Constitution says that the purpose of the government is to promote the general welfare of the people.

This country will weather up and cease to exist if some of the selfish and unadvised stances of Tea Partiers are put into law. Tea Partiers seem willing to destroy government at any cost if it promotes their own selfish interest. The Tea Party/Republican shutdown is hurting almost every one but benefiting only a few wealthy.

The phrase is "wither up," not "weather up." Also the phrase "promote the general welfare" in "your U.S. Constitution" did not mean to put everybody on welfare.

This Tea Party has just been around maybe 4 years. The good ole USA has been getting gradually destroyed for at least 50 years, and has accelerated greatly over the last 25. The last 10 or 12 have been especially bad. Do you not understand the correlation between income and expenditures?

Yes, I understand it perfectly. I also understand what happens to the world economy when the U.S. defaults on its securities. World Wide Depression. The Tea Party has no understanding of this and when it happens they will become irrelevant, an asterisk in history, brainless people who seized a little bit of power and destroyed civilization as we know it.
Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The tea drinkers of today have learned nothing from history.

My sincere hope is that they don't destroy this great country as they seem to not mind doing. Yet they wrap themselves in the flag and claim that they love America but they are selfish enough to not care who suffer as long as they don't have to pay taxes.

I love my country and don't want to see it or my way of life destroyed.

The only people whose way of life that they want destroyed are the freeloaders. If you are a working person, your way of life has already been destroyed. There was a time that if you had a job, you could actually buy more than just the necessities. It is called inflation, and it happens when you have too many dollars chasing too few goods. Print money long enough, and see how much stuff will cost.
