I was at the meeting last night and was amazed how the community came together. I man running for office stood up and ask why a job of 200 million dollars did not have open bids for the electrical job.. He stated the job was given to a member of the Industrial Developmental Board? Conflict of interest or what? Another woman in Newport stood up and stated that no one has notified anyone on the Nolichucky River of this plan to pump water out or dump ammonium nitrate in the water for the past 3 years. A doctor stood up and said he has been on the water board in Mosheim and he stated that these people are lying to us.. A banker from Newport hit it on the nail when he spoke of who gave USN approval to go ahead and spend 30 million without first getting water permits. He said that as a banker he has never known of a business operating this way without having all the permits needed first. I guess TDEC and IDB thinks the community is to dumb to notice what they have been up too... I hope the Sunshine lawsuit kicks IDBs ass .. You are not as slick as you want to be ... SO much corruption in Greeneville... kickbacks, secret meeting, breaking the federal laws, all for 80 freaking jobs ...the population in Greene County is what 50-60 thousand....GO HOME USN >>>GO BLOW UP SOME OTHER CITY ***

Emotional words against the project mean little---organizing those who are against the project means everything. Other than the suit in chancery court, what is the actual opposition? Nothing. By the time the suit goes to long delayed trial most of the construction work will have been done. US Nitrogen's boots on the ground will win the dirty day, Haslam will see that the permits are issued, and for any questions of Federal law Sen Alexander or ex Sen Baker will see that USN gets whatever they want. Secret deals engineered by the GC Partnership and the GC Commissioners will continue to rule county politics, and perhaps bring more heavy industry to fertile farmland. I doubt if US Nitrogen will celebrate their eventual victory with a special corporate event at Nolichucky Vineyards. The Gen Morgue Inn is more their style.

I say that multinational chemical corporations depend on the ignorance, greed and desperation of third world countries like East Tennessee.

Seems like an awful lot of hooplah, environmental damage & money spent over something which isn't providing that many jobs. In other words, was the risk worth the benefit? I also wonder how much this place will end up costing the county by other businesses/ industries not wanting to locate here or in that area because of USN. Legal battles don't send warm fuzzier to potential industry either. Just my .02 worth.

What I meant by my first opine was whether you are in favor of the project or not it probably does not matter,(sadly) as the powers that be have already made up their minds and this back and forth is simply a hurdle they must deal with to appease the public. There is too much behind the back dealing going on and money changing hands not to let this happen. Politics as usual. We the sheeple.

Sadly, you are probably right. Too much $$ has been invested for them to let this project fail. I just hope this doesn't become a Love Canal or other Eco-Disaster.

Did you catch what one speaker said, in giving her name she corrected (or tried to correct) the Greeneville Sun, who had gotten her name wrong in an earlier story. I wonder what else they've gotten wrong or screwed up. I wish the Sun would report on the backdealing and backslapping but that won't happen, they do not investigate. They're too close to the GC Partnership and the Industrial Dev Board.

"Vertical Integration" on the list of the U.S. Nitro. corporate power point screen....that's a good one....Did they mean control the supply chain, control the water supply, carry your own water in a pipeline, skip the water boards (and paying for G'ville and Mosheim water) entirely. Cheaper to build a pipeline ain't it, cheaper than buying water. And they really do need a lotta watta. So when is evangelical environmentalism coming to Greene County? When are the devout Christians of our county and the devout Christians of the Sun gonna wake up and realize that this is God's green earth. Not any time soon I reckon. Not while the profits are good and the wheel's still spinning.

In all fairness that plant is not the same as the one that will be here. That is the main manufacturing plant that makes the explosives. What will be manufactured here is a component of their process.

yeah and if US Nitro needs any help destroying wetlands that stand in their way they should talk to Sen. Corker. He knows how to destroy wetlands like a pro and make money in the process:

"The sale of protected wetlands
In 2003, Corker's real estate company sold protected wetlands near South Chickamauga Creek in Chattanooga to Wal-Mart for $4.6 million while he was mayor of Chattanooga. According to Joe Prochaska, an attorney representing the Tennessee Environmental Council, "What they did was outrageous. They just ran roughshod over this public property for private gain."[14] Environmental educator Sandy Kurtz filed suit in 2003 to stop the land deal, but the lawsuit was dismissed."

yeah we need 50 more factories on old farms. we want the Nolichucky to look and taste like the Ohio River.

Ya kno.....who really gives a ph*ck about ole' nasty a$$ wetlands. I'm sooo tired of hearing this sh*t. You can back fill it all and pave it as far as I and the silent majority are concerned. Wetlands are breeding grounds for mosquitos and other verman. Wetlands certainly ain't payin' peoples bills around here. Yeah...I'm really sorry for some environmental douche bag like Sandy Kurtz. Environmental educator? Sounds like some cushy university job to me. Not a job in today's REAL WORLD!!

BTW.... As to the meeting the other night at WGHS. How many of the "nay sayers" are currently employed here? Or for that matter, employed at all other than the guy with the "vineyard"? Yeah bet thats a multi million dollar company providing lots o jobs in this area. Easy to "save the environment" when you don't have to make a living isn't it?

Get used to saying U.S. NITROGEN!!!!!! people. All you working class people in Greene County better thank God for em' and hope there's more like em' in the future. A future of GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT! for Greene Countians and other surrounding counties!
