Not sure about posting on here with some of the comments I have seen, however I am going to try because I know there is great people in Greene County (and yes some bad).

My husband and I have two kids and are wanting to foster. This is something I have wanted to do for a while but have wanted to be sure. We take great care of our kids and do not receive any government funding so please don't start bashing.

My question is the best place to contact - Holston Home, DCS or some other place? I want to make this as easy on my family as possible. We would love to have comments from those that have fostered now or in the past. Thank you.

I think you should first contact DCS. There are many steps to becoming foster parents including classes background checks etc. good luck to you. I think it's a great thing to do to help those children in need.

Do not go through DHS unless you are willing to lie, backstab, and abandon any.resemblence to religion. And one more thing, you must lose all of your morals. Holston Home is a great place with great people!

Not all kids who are foster kids are troubled! However u do get more $ for the troubled ones. Holston is fantastic! Omni does fostering too. It does take some extensive time & training but the kids would rather be in a foster home than a facility any day! Just hold them accountable!

Thanks everyone. The age of my children is why I have waited. I wanted them to be old enough to understand and to talk to me if something is going on.

Ray - Thank you so much. I hold my children to high standards and I will do the same for any foster children. I believe that every child should have at least one parent to love them. I know that in this world it will not happen and I am just one person, but I truly believe if each (one) person did their part things would truly be different in the world and you are right not all foster kids are trouble makers, some just need to be showed that they matter.

You probably know most of the agencies in this area already. I have fostered many many children over the years. I do believe most children are troubled kids, some just react to it differently,There are a lot abandonment issues, attachment issues ,,PTSD...lots of things going on. You get to meet kids...know some of their history and make a decision if this child fits your home. You can always tell the agency what will and will not work for you...for instance ..if you wouldn't a child who has raped another child...or been abusive to animals...or one that wets the bed ..one that is physically aggressive..etc. The agency will ask the age of the children you want to keep. My own children have some attachment issues now..so many kids have come and gone they are very careful about bonding with the foster kids. We haven't regretted being foster parents. Like you it was something I wanted to do for years. So many children have never lived in a normal family ...they get that chance through us and hopefully learn to be good parents. The classes are not hard and actually enjoyable..there's a lot to go thru especially just starting out. It is a daily learning experience for everyone involved !! It's not always an easy job..it is sometimes heartbreaking..nerve wracking..emotional..but rewarding on Mother's Day and your phones rings all day..Christmas when the kids want to come back..when they say "you taught me so much" I think if you have the desire..you should go for it. If you just help one child it will all be worth it. but know it is a VERY tough job!!! When I started I had a fantasy that all the kids would just love me to pieces because I gave them a home..not so much... I GIVE THE BEST I HAVE TO EACH CHILD .. I wish you the very best :)

Thank you Foster Mom for the information and thank you for being open to giving your time to these children.

We were called to be father to the fatherless (or mother), if more people would follow what the bible truly teaches we would not have millions of children in the system. Can you imagine being poured out into the world at 18 with no parents or family to be there for you. I imagine that is why so many turn to things they shouldn't - they think it will provide them some kind of love.

It is very sad this country has turned to this and even more so since the drug rate is skyrocketing. I think it is time for people to take their country back before we all fall.- Sorry for the long speech, just truly hurting for our country and our children right now.

Your post is spot on! It really is terrible how much pain a parent will inflict on their own child. A big thank you to every foster parent that sees these children for more than a check. They just need someone to be there for them... Great job!
