Need some advice. My father has been unemployed for over a year but keeps getting unemployment extensions. In the past year, he has made absolutely no legitimate attempt to look for a job. He says he "doesn't like to work" and says he's "paid into the system" and should get something out.

Aren't unemployment extensions taxpayer funded? I don't understand how he watches Fox News every night, complains about "Obama giving everyone everything" and about how we're living in a welfare entitlement society, yet he's sat on his ass for over a year when he's perfectly able to work.

How should I handle this? I don't want to report him per se, I just want to give him gentle encouragement to seek employment.

Too funny! It's so true- many who complain loudly about "Obama giving people everything" are the VERY ONES who are the moochers. So ironic....

I agree. I hate hearing East Tennessee Republicans complaining about President Obama's so called Socialist policies, while they take full advantage of food stamps, tenncare, medicare, disability, subsidized housing and veterans benefits. It is not ironic that they complain, it is an example of ignorance, lack of education and hypocrisy. Only in East Tennessee will the majority of the population vote for an unqualified and uneducated wife beating hypocrite, and tell him what a great job he is doing.

If you are male and over the age of 45, you are not desirable. You can't do the physical labor a younger person can do. Insurance costs the employer more. Older employees are more prone to stand up for themselves if they are taken advantage of. For most jobs you apply for you get stuck with taking stupid personality tests that anyone with a good work ethic will fail because they seek mindless robots. Get off the old man's back. The govt is really doing a great job with the idiots in charge taking multi-million dollar vacations and not trying to do anything to help bring jobs back. He has every right to get what he paid in back before it all goes bust because the idiots in charge stole it. It's not an entitlement when you have been forced to pay it in.

They also want to receive every kind of federal grant they can and then complain about how much the Government spends. I was mildly angered to see (a few months back) Rep. Roe smile and take credit during a Kodak moment for a grant to a local hospital and then turn around and say the Government spends too much.

The Government may spend too much, but if you are on the take, there is no moral reason to complain.

I am neither male nor over the age of 45. However, I have found many, many men over the age of 45 to be desirable in contradiction to your statement. My personality test scores are always very poor. It's not really my "choice" per se to sit on my a$$ and live off the hard working citizens of this country. I'm just not the mindless robot employers are seeking. Now, if you don't mind, I've already missed half of Dr. Phil's show on how to forgive my husband's sloppy 2nds.
