Your list unfortunately leaves out better players than you list. You are apparently too young to remember some of the better players. To my knowledge, only two local golfers have been given full golf scholarships to the University of Tennessee. Walter Chapman Jr, a teaching pro in Knoxville, and Doug Kenney. Both played for 3 or 4 years at U.T. In Kenney's case, freshman were not eligible to play varsity sports when he entered in 1966, 2 years after finishing 4th to Johnny Miller in the U.S. Junior.

Only 2 golfers from Greene County have ever won the Tennessee State Open Championship. Walter Chapman Jr in 1996, and Steve Munson in 1991. I know that you listed Munson as a "good player." He was better in his prime than everyone in the state on that weekend. So was Chapman.

No offense to the players on your list( I have played with 15 of the 18), but those other 3 guys accomplished far more than anyone on your list. Meade is the only one who belongs in the same paragraph with the 3 I listed, but he wasn't mature enough to reach his potential.

I noticed that you listed Scott Honeycutt. Ask Scott's father Johnny Honeycutt about Doug Kenney as a young golfer. I think that he would tell you that Doug might have been the best junior from around here ever. Doug had a very short, wristy swing, similar to the old Canadian touring pro Dave Barr, or Hubert Green without the loop. The golf coach at U.T., Lloyd Foree changed Kenney's swing to a much longer, less wristy action, and he was never the same.
