I was at Walmart the other day killing time while my wife shopped. Anyhoo.. there were two males wearing ties and obviously managers. What was funny to me was the two older female employees following them around brown-nosing. I swear if one of those men had stopped short he'd had a nose up his ass. It was last Tuesday at about 2:30pm. Any idea who these women are?

They fired me yesterday because I reached the last stage on the attendance policy. It's not like I missed all the time or laid out just for the heck of it. I left early one day because I got sick. Never mind that I walked out the door doubled over in pain and ended up in the emergency room that same night or never mind that during the first snow I slid into a ditch and tore my car up trying to get to work.
Sorry you lost your job but everyone who is working should remember that the unemployment rate is high here and there are many people just waiting to take their job.

All mexicans should be carded when they enter wal-mart. It could be the easiest way to deport these trashy low-life illegal leeches that have helped suck this country dry. Between the illegals and the walefare class, they have created a hole in the country's economic structure.
Get the hell out and come back legally and ready to pay income taxes and all the other taxes you and your kind avoid now.
We don't want you here nor do we like you. We have enough trouble with white and black trash that are legal citizens.
WM is the mall for the inbred trash of the world. Plain and simple. Sadly, it's the only mall Greeneville will ever have.

You calling us all illegals and saying we drain your economy is like me saying you're all part of that movie Deliverance. I like walmart, you oughta try shopping where I come from and maybe you'd appreciate walmart.

This is such bullshit. I'd PREFER to shop at Ingles, but I'm not going to pay higher prices just to prove some stupid-assed point. Most of the people that work there need those jobs and are probably looking for other work... I work in an office with just as big of CHEAP aggravating employers as the folks in WalMart put up with. I left work so pissed yesterday my blood was boiling...WIsh I could find something else, but times are tough- jobs are hard to come by, so like many of the Wal-Mart employees, I suck it up, dream of a better job and wait. Yes in Utopia, we'd all just be able to find and enjoy American made products at a reasonable choice, but those days are long gone just like the 8 track tapes. Deal with it.

I imagine that most of the folks who say, "Screw Walmart!" shop there regularly and contribute to their profit. If you're really that passionate about your cause, simply don't shop at their stores. I suspect it may cost a little more elsewhere though.(-:

Walmart isn't the only company that pays low(er) wages and less than stellar benefits. All those other places one poster named that he shops at, Food City, Ingles, Dollar stores, even Broyles etc, do you honestly believe they are any better than the big box when it comes to pay & benefits? A business is IN business to make money and we the consumers want everything cheap and readily available. That means Walmart, Kmart & Target because they get the lowest prices for their customers. Plus in this economy there is only so much disposable income to go toward food, clothing etc so most of go where we get the best bang for our buck! Ideal situation? No...Reality? YES!

When you consider retail jobs alone you're right, all companies pay cashiers minimum wage. But you're missing a big part of the picture.

I shop mainly at Food City, which is based just outide Bristol and uses many local suppliers. Local eggs, produce, milk from Athens, TN, bread produced in local bakeries, Terry's chips in Bristol, etc. etc. etc. as I could go on. They have a distribution center near the Tri-Cities to provide factory and trucking jobs. Ingles is based in Asheville, NC and runs a milk plant and buys milk supplies from many farmers in the area.

When Walmart had the big cantaloupe recall earlier this year for E. coli Food City was not affected and labeled cantaloupes as coming from farms in TN and VA. Same is true for "Pink Slime" as Walmart used it in all their beef shipped in from their national factory.

Walmart does nothing but trucks in food and supplies from other areas. They import much more meat, produce, etc from overseas to save a penny and do nothing to help local farmers. So you're right that cashiers don't make much at any of those places. But the local economy benefits much more by shopping at places like Food City or Ingles because those chains do much more for the local economy beyond cashier and store manager jobs.

Would also bet that between sales, fuel discount, and generics which are more widely available at supermarkets like Food City and Ingles, walmart really won't even save you any $$.

Oh I prefer to shop at Food City especially for meat products and veggies but when it comes go most household good and things I go where the lowest price is and that could be any of these places. Shopping local is a good thing as it puts back into the community but again, when the prices are marginally higher, most people have to go where their dollars get more. I like the fuel bucks and other incentives given by Food City as it adds up.

My main point was that all these larger chains places have equally lower wages and not the greatest benefits for their employees just as smaller places have low wages and no benefits in some cases. Love it or hate it Walmart (and the like) do save people money which is so very important to many who don't have a lot to go around. They do it by getting the lowest prices on their products even if they have to import it. Consumers want want want and don't want to pay a lot for it and that is why the big box places are here to stay. If people didn't then they would have been put out of business a long time ago.
